when i bought my W250 it had what i belive to be a 6 inch lift. springs in the front and blocks in the back.

i'd like to lower the truck 3 inches. i have a local spring shop that can make me new springs for under $1000. is that the best route or does someone have a better option?

I'm not sure, but the spring shop idea is a good place to go, if you don't want to wrench on it yourself. I bet it rides like DONKEY with all those leafs in the front!!! WOW!! Otherwise, I'd say to try to remove a few leafs and see if it will settle.....

hom many leafs are in the w250's to begin with? all new springs is the best route?

I think the original front spring pack has 6 leafs, the rear looks normal. They used the tall spacer on the rear from the factory. If it does have a lift, it is very little. All the W 250's were rough riding, they were still trucks:)

I test drove a 92 model regular cab and a club cab, both 4x4's, then settled on the '91. 5 D 250 mostly because of the ride quality.

Best way is to hook on a trailer or add weight to the bed. :D

As for the springs, I believe front were 7 (including that little do nothing one), and rear was 9. I think. Have to check. Its been a while since those were in the truck! ;)

My suggestion is at least call or talk to Alcan Spring. He will have the advice and pricing you need. He made my springs. LOVE them. :)

you could get springs up front and air ride in the back. firestone makes an air shock set then you can raise and lower it whenever, and lighten the prssure for daily driving.

Personally, I'd avoid the short Firestone bags, as I've done that, and hated the way the 4 wheel drives handled off road. They limit travel so bad, it has almost no flex in the rear, and then they're rough as a three legged donkey when empty... ... Carli makes a great long bag air-ride system that rides pretty darn good, though. Expensive, but works well..... Alcan would be a great place to get springs. Taking some leafs out is a good option, as well, but the front may settle so bad it hits the bump stops, which makes them ride really rough, too.....

Yes. Alcan springs. they did the 1990s. Love them.

As for leaf count, the original springs in the dd were 6 front 7 rear.

As for bags, helper bags will never make the ride smoother. They are designed for load assist. If you want smoother, give Kelderman a call. They have 2 styles. One less expensive that still uses the leafs, the other the system you can see on my project truck with no rear springs.
