My 2011, ith the tow/haul actually works pretty good. ( (I'm an old 6 speed man ) one problem is that the exhaust brake automatically kicks out at 1200 rpm when you slowing down. Just when you need it. Is it possible to adjust this factory brake like the old exhaust brakes (banks) I had before where they stay on till you turn them off???

It is a computer controlled function of the VGT so reprogramming it would require someone with the ability to reprogram an ECM.

The torque convertor probably unlocks at 1200 rpm when slowing so keeping the exhaust brake function activated would not do any slowing and might damage the automatic transmission.

Manually gearing it down while stopping will keep the RPM higher and let the brake work to a lower speed.

I tried tow/haul for a little bit, had some issues with it banging the driveline on a downshift, and didnt want to leave my driveshaft behind me...

I manually downshift now, with the exh brake on. . takes some getting used to, but it works pretty good. . one hint-- the exh brake will not enable unless you make 32mph. (in 3rd/4th gear) After that, you can downshift to 2, just keep the rpms above that 1200 mark.

oh. . and I still have my factory brake pads. . at 44. 9k (and 9700lb) and I do a lot of city driving, probably 60/40

What do you mean by the the highlighted line above?

My VGT (exhaust brake) closes (activates) every time I lift my foot off the accelerator pedal at any speed and remains activated down to below 20 mph.

I've also learned on my truck that the harder you brake, the more aggressively the transmission downshifts in the tow/haul mode and, thus, the more effective the exhaust brake function is. When beginning to slow, a momentary harder-than-normal application of the foot brake is enough to trigger this more aggressive downshift schedule, so you can then ease off the brakes and let the exhaust brake function slow the truck/trailer.

The computers are actually pretty smart once you learn what they're looking for.
