I have a 2010 2500 crew with factory trailer brake and the message board says service trailer brake and the trailer brake controller has LF on read out. How do you service trailer brake.

Does that situation occur when you have a trailer attached?

If so, you've got either an open or shorted trailer brake wire on the trailer - probably to the left front brake.

I think I saw that when I disconnected my trailer while the truck was running. Once the truck was shut off and started again it went away, like it thought I may have accidentally lost the connection.

I had that once on a controller . I found that the wire going through the axle was shorting sometimes . I pulled the wire , run it in a tube beneath the axle and haven't had anymore problems. sharp edges on the axle had partially stripped the insulation of the wire when it was originally installed . water in the axle tube didn't help either .

There should be a dtc in the itbm.

After you have that there is a flow chart to help with troubleshootinh
