Hello all;

As you can see from my minimal amount of posts, I am still a new kid but I have a question for those reference oil changes. Do you use the oil change indicator with your EVIC or do you still change by mileage?

When I am towing my 15000 # 5er, I tend to change based upon the mileage (every 4000 miles give or take a couple hundred miles).

Is the EVIC accurate in its oil analysis or does the EVIC do this, I thought that it has the ability to do this.

Your thoughts?

The evic message is predicting fuel dilution of the oil by your duty cycle. I would never extend an oil change past the message showing up. I am going to guess the owners manual will be a good reference for you to learn what the recommended service intervals for the entire truck.

Agree with Bob. Additionally sag2, a member here who works on these trucks daily at a dealership, really pushes owners to mind the EVIC.

The EVIC is connect to the engine computer, this will look at your type of driving, and advise when to change the oil. On my 2012 I now have 4300 miles, no message yet, 85% has been towing the 5th wheel, and my oil still looks OK, and no fuel that I can see or smell. I do all my own service, so I have to take that into account, being 1000 miles from home with the message popping up will cause me to visit a shop for oil change, so I may do mine at 5000 miles, in your case, if you do your own, you may do the same, if you have it done, I don't see any reason to not just wait for the message, changing oil on one of these at 4000 miles with no message appears a little over kill to me.

Changed mine to AMZ/OIL 15-40 100% Synthetic at 1,700 did the reset and alert to change came on at 6,900 with about 2,000 of the 5,200 towing.
