I dont know off hand what the Buff had for power but YOU ARE 100% CORRECT those babies cranked out the smoke and power X 8 just rattle your teeth when at the EOR and they went over. Most devastating thing was when they laid down some 500 lb bombs if you were with in a mile of ground 0 and on the ground flat (because if you weren't flat)you soon would be. I think the carried 104 500 pound bombs. you could just feel the ground shake.

Reading this part of your post made me remember something that I thought was funny as Hell.

equivilent to the propagation rate of the explosive. Normally about 14,000 feet per second! More than 5X the speed of a US issue . 7. 62 NATO ammunition! Steel rain! GregH

We had been on site for maybe 6 months and VERY VERY tired of eating stuff that would make a BILLYGOAT puke. The Gentleman that saved my A** Mr Sampson was Gripping about not eating but I didnt say ANYTHING BECAUSE OF THE SIZE OF THE MAN. I dont know how he got in the Air Force he was THE BIGGEST guy I have ever seen in the military. I was at the always lit campfire and thinking the same thing. Sampson picked up his weapon of choice an M79 grenade launcher went to the rice patties that were around the base. And cut loose on a water buffalo. The comment you made about steel rain :-laf we watched this and it looked like it was RAINING STEAKS :-laf We hacked off a hind 1/4 took it back to camp and put it on a make shift spit. The Camp Commander was into bird hunting went with him a few times in the states. He came to the fire after smelling something cooking and asked where did you get that? I said DONT ASK. I cut him off a big chunk and told him to watch out for shrapnel. He had a puzzled look on his face and said your right I dont want to know :-laf I'm 6 ft 6in and he made me look like a midget he was so strong that one time we were changing brakes on some airplane and I was going to get a jack to put the brake on the spindle he said why bother get out of the way. And picked up that brake set that had to weigh at least 200 pounds and put it on the spindle and held it there untill I could get the spindle nut tight:eek:

BIG! Yeah Buddy! Problem with steel rain is that it flies up and out:-laf!

Your Pardner was REALLY BIG!

M-79's anyone? Me too! Kinda like a "buffalo Gun"! Thats what I called 'em!

When I wasn't packin' a radio, I did everything in my power to keep away from the blasted M-16. I hated them. Was issued 4, M-16's during my last tour. They were absolute trash. Still cant get rid of that bad feeling about them. I know they are a far better weapon then back in the 1960's.

Heres another one of those diverse weapons experience adventures:D!

PS, Kinda like a . 45/70 on steroidsOo. !

I mostly carried my Mossberg Shot gun STILL HAVE IT TO THIS DAY. But after the first time we got overran I changed weapon choice. Still had the shotgun but made sure the M60 wasn't far away. I still have dreams about the need for the M60 wave after wave of VC seems like they just wouldn't stop coming and the M60 barrel was so hot that the fore stock was like hanging on to a fireplace poker just glowing red hot and couldnt even feel it. The first time I was so AMMMMMPED THAT IT WAS A RUSH THAT CANT BE REPLACED BY ANY DRUG. Total of 5 times they took that base I dont know what was so DAMN IMPORTANT about it. To loose so many for so little gain. We would be back in camp 2 or 3 days later that was the hard part. Was looking at the picture that had our tarp shelter and the bunk on the right mine I cant tell if that was the Shotgun or what but I was always packin something

"Buff" = Power X 7 LOL!!

I dont know off hand what the Buff had for power but YOU ARE 100% CORRECT those babies cranked out the smoke and power X 8 just rattle your teeth when at the EOR and they went over.

A reader wrote us, retelling the story about the military pilot calling ATC for a priority landing because his single-engine jet fighter was running "a bit peaked. " ATC told the fighter jock that he was number two behind a B-52 that had one shut down.

"Ah," the pilot remarked, "the dreaded seven-engine approach!"

I have no idea where this originated, but I just happened to save the email! It also had a few quotes from the "Sled Drivers"... Awesome!!

Edit: I did a search to find more quotes and found this one... Enjoy!! http://www.businessballs.com/airtrafficcontrollersfunnyquotes.htm

Glide ratio is pretty much a thing of the past for any of the planes of today. The B52 had to load short on fuel and hit an in air gas station if it was loaded max munitions. Or you needed a runway the size of Texas to get airborne.

Your post is funny but not to the fighter pilot
