I have a few Q before I commit to buy.

Why This brand over another?

Is there a general agreement of a good estimated MPG improvement. 1 2 3 4 more less?

Any additional discounts if I buy Ball Joints?

Any downside other than cost?

I'm not sure if one brand is any better then another. I chose this brand because shipping rates were cheaper to my place here in Alaska. I did buy new ball joints since I was tearing into the front end. Without a doubt I'm getting close to 2 mpg improvement and I'm looking forward to spring time to unlock the hubs and see how much better it really is. The only down side that I can see is the total cost for this upgrade. Perhaps if a guy spends lots of time off road, you'll need to remember that the hubs stick out a ways.

Sorry for taking this thread a bit off topic...

TGVET said, "$2,500. (Parts only) divided by $5. 00/gal = 500gal. x 18MPG = 9000 miles. @ 100 MPD that's three months of driving or 36,000 per year. "

Sorry to correct your math assumption, but the payback is much longer.

Assume your mileage improves from 19mpg to 20mpg, fuel costs $5. 00/gal, and conversion parts cost $2500. At 19mpg your fuel cost is 26. 32 cents per mile. At 20mpg your fuel cost is 25. 00 cents per mile. The delta, 1. 32 cents per mile, is what you save. If the parts cost you 250000 cents ($2500. 00) it will take you 189394 miles to break even based up. on fuel savings (250000/1. 32).

Do this for reliability, not economy. Dodge chose unit bearing hubs because they are cheap to assemble and usually get them past warranty coverage.

Again, my apology for taking the thread in this direction. Just wanted to make sure the numbers worked out right.

Your analysis is very good. However, an increase of 2 MPG (which is reasonable) will significantly shorten the payback time. Don't forget also that the front DS and U joints will last much longer, and you won't require replacement of the unit bearings any more.

As for choosing the DT kit over the others, it's made in USA. That's good enough for me.

I placed the order today for 3 sets. Thanks to those who bought them. I will be able to get the ball joint kits also. Chris

Motorhead,

I also have not heard back. Please message me as I am bad need of some ball joints! And would also be interested in your EMS kit. I have the cash ready to go.

I don't mean to pee on the party,I paid $1750 including shipping to my front door in less then a week. (to Knik,Alaska) I didn't get the Warn hubs like I should have, but there isn't that much of a price difference between the two. I got my kit from Extreme Axle Sales in New City,NY. I don't see how they made any money due to the weight of the parts, which came in 3 boxes. I decided to replace all u joints, along with the BJ while I was at it. It was hard to believe the driving difference. I bought new tires a couple weeks ago and I can't remember my truck ever driving as nice as it does after dumping all the money and parts. I had grown tired of the way my truck drove and thought of buying a newer model. Now I doubt I'll get rid of my truck which drives better then a new truck. If you are worried about the cost, how long will it take to pay for the parts ect ect ect, you'll change your mind after the first test drive.

You bought the Spyntech kit not the Dynatrac. I paid about that much for my EMS kit.

I chose 1 mpg increase based upon the comment of one of the posters who has these.

A 2 mpg increase from 19 to 21 decreases the break even mileage to 99,600 at $5 per gal. You are correct.

Motorhead, I can't remember where I read the difference between the two, it must be on here somewhere ? Are the difference between the two enough to justify the additional $$ ? I'm not into off-road 4x4ing, its a daily work truck, highway miles with occasional boat tow trips. (Would be nice to save $450. and use toward other needed fixes or upgrades)

G. C. Thanks for the math correction . .

I know that the Dynatrac hubs don't stick out near as far. US made also.

Yes, I know about that, its the internals I am wanting to compare. Shafts, splines, hubs, bearings etc. . ? Maybe I'll do a search or call the DDP in Monroe,WA.

Sam, I am sorry for not getting back to you sooner. They don't show a set yet for '10-'11. I will call Dynatrac on Monday and PM you.

Sounds great. I know Steve at Dynatrac told me in Jan they would be available in March or April. I bought my first set of Dynatrac free spin hubs thru a TDR group purchase. Thanksfor checking, Sam.

OK, I am presently converting to manual locking hubs and they are going to stick out a little. What wheels look the best with these? I wanted to get new wheels anyway, but I want them to look good with my new hubs.

Wider offset wheels present steering issues with these trucks. (Death wobble )
