I see posts on here weekly about guys who are having injector issues. Spend the $170 and get a secondary filter to resolve this issue. You can either spend $170 now or $3,000. 00 for injectors later. It's such cheap insurance it's flat out dumb not to get better filtration. I have run this Kit (Cummins CAT Fuel Filter Kit) on my truck for 3 years and just passed 200,000 miles with absolutely no issues whatsoever. It flat out works! CHEAP INSURANCE BROTHER! I am living proof... ... .....

I don't understand fuel injector issues either. I've put a combined 670,000 miles on three Dodge Rams and have never had an injector issue.
 
You ain't got trouble 'til you got trouble, Uncle Harv and Aaron. Just be thankful for your good fortune. ONE of my 5 tractors had injector problems, the other 4 never. They all drank from the same well. Stuff happens. I was thankful not to have trouble on all 5! Mark
 
Secondary filtration does NOT guarantee you won't have injector issues. But it certainly reduces the likelihood of having problems
 
Same thing as I posted on CF

I don't get it either since I am still on my original injectors. I used to run nothing but the Fleetguard Stratapore fuel filter until I learned about the Baldwin PF7977 fuel filter five years ago and that is all I have been running since then. I now have just over 180,000 miles on my truck. At least 130,000 of those miles I have burned retail bio diesel anywhere from B1-B100 and have burned over 300 gallons of reclaimed Jet Fuel. I don't change my fuel filter on a mileage schedule; I only change it when I see a consistent drop in pressure.

After having issues with Ford injectors on the Power Strokes I used to own, we learned there to protect them with 10 micron primary and a 2 micron secondary filter. Now years later, a lot of trucks, a million miles we're still trouble free...

I know its worked for me...
 
200K on my truck using single filtration and Fleetguard Stratapore filters and I haven't had an injector problem of any kind so far. I run 16oz of Power Service through the tank every few fill ups and the only bio-diesel has been what's added by the retailer. When I'm on the road I try to stick with Love's and Pilot, though about 10% of the time I've had to use BP, Shell or Buc-ee's (Buc-ee's, by the way are the coolest, cleanest fuel stops I have ever seen in my life. A real joy to stop there). When I am in town I always fill up at the local QT truck stop. Injector problems may have as much to do with *where* you buy your fuel as your filtration.

I agree with this statement to a certain point, but it's hard to control where sometimes, and you never know when there tanks were just filled and you have sediment floating around in them. Have you ever seen the size of a micron? The difference between most failure and success I have seen here on the forums is about 5 microns since the stock filters are 7um and the secondaries are down around 2-3um. I think I would spend the $169 and not trust the fuel... ... ... ...

Filtration definitely helps. Dirty fuel and above stock pressure (pressure boxes) fuel flowing through the injectors can both cause problems over time and dirty fuel will probably get you first... . :-{}
 
Ya, I used to brag untill mine quit 2500 miles from home with 183K on the clock.
 
Yeah,I've got the GDP 2-micron setup for piece of mind.



I observed the installation of the tank mod and a FASS system yesterday. The fuel in the owner's '04 w/125K was decent,but you could see the junk on the bottom of the tank. He's on his stock injectors also,but the FASS system should help a bunch.
 
I've owned one of these trucks or just shy of 20 years now and never had a fuel related issue until recently. I now have a secondary fuel filter on the infected truck and one will be on the other one ASAP. I can't begin to describe the amount of frustration one single contaminated tank can cause.
 
We all have to accept the fact the new diesels will require more money to operate than the old mechanical diesels. In return we have more creature comforts
 
I know years ago I went to a Cummins dealership with the thoughts of purchasing 7 micron fuel filter instead of the recommended 10 micron. They suggested I stay with the manufacture specifications.
Now have 175k on the clock. Use only name brand diesel if that makes any difference.
Keeping my fingers crossed as $$$ being spent now original replacing ball joints,shocks as well as other normal maintenance items.

That's why I have also logged every fuel stop and save all the receipts back to the day I drove the truck off the lot. If something does happen I'd like to think that being a loyal customer for almost 10 years will go a long way in them standing behind their fuel and covering the repair. I also try to patronize the national name truck stops when I'm on the road for the same reason.

My BIL had to pay out a lot of $$$ on his Chevy gasser because of a load of bad fuel. He didn't have his receipt. I keep fuel receipts for at least 2 months.

I talked to a guy the other day who had over 650 km ( 400 miles ) on the original injectors in his 06 3500. He hauls RV's across the country so the truck is worked and driven like it was meant to be. Shad

I use the GDP w/2mic. 247,000 and never any issues as well. Yet.
 
My 03. 5 truck is at 197,000 miles, same lift pump, same injectors since new. Always fillup with namebrand fuel, always change fuelfilter at 15K with Fleetguard brand, change oil at 7,500 with Fleetguard brand. Since the mandated ULSD, and reformulated oils, I add 8 oz of 2-stroke oil in fuel tank at fillup, add ZDDP additive to oil at oil change.
