Hi,

I just notices that my truck sounds like the Exhaust Brake is on when I am in drive but stopped at a light. It stops if I put it into Park but if I go back to drive again it sounds like the turbo is spooling due to the exhaust brake being on. Once I start moving the engine no longer sounds like it is under load due to the exhaust brake being on.

Anyone else notice this ?

BTW,

DPF is deleted 5" exhaust, deleted cat, 2007. 5 6. 7l mega, EGR blocked

What has the outside and engine temps been when you notice this? Could it be that it is coming on because of things being cold?

That happened to mine right before they cleaned the turbo and installed the J35 software flash. Never happened since then 2 years ago. Dirty turbo maybe.

Air Temp

The outside air temp was above 65 so unless the temp sensor is freaking out I wouldn't expect the engine to try and stay warm by applying the exhaust brake.

Maybe I'll pull the turbo off and clean it this weekend or at least run some seafoam through the intake & see what happens...

I wouldn't administer any liquid or fuel, whether or not it's combustible, to the air intake. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

The word "Runaway" comes to mind.

I have witnessed runaway diesels a couple of times, and it is not pretty or inexpensive.....

Actually it is quite the challange trying to anticipate where the flying parts are going to land when it grenades..... makes fat people like me run really fast!!!!!:eek:

Don't put a thing into that intake. Even if you simply use a solvent to clean it out the residue can be flammable for a long time after.

Is your exhaust brake turned on or is it off?

I am fully deleted and once in awhile my truck will also sound like the exhaust brake is on at a stop light. My exhaust brake is turned on and with the windows down you will get a slight tonal change at stop lights. I attribute this to the sliding vanes being closed down some due to the engagement of the exhaust brake. I can turn the brake off and you do get a tonal change in sound when stop.

I am not worried and I have never seen any performance issues with the truck and I do not have any CEL's on.
