What brand name do the Costco batteries fly under?

I just noticed on the OEM's in my 03, that the passenger side negative post has some corrosion(tells me the post seal is starting to leak). They still pass my hand held load bank test, and the little window is still green, but I will replace them, just not sure with what, was always thinking DieHards.

Having worked in DC power plants for the Telecommunications industry for many years, I have a fair understanding of battery construction and maintenance. I know Johnson Controls, Exide and C&D manufacture most wet cells, and also a lot of the VRLA's(valve regulated lead acid). However they may not use the same specs/standards for different suppliers.

Has anyone had much experience with the NAPA Exide batteries? It seems as far as warranty, there is a NAPA store in almost every small berg across the country, so getting an adjustment should one be needed, would be simple.

Whenever we replaced a string of batteries at work, we always had to float them @ 110% above nominal voltage, offline, for up to 100 hrs before putting them online. We maintained a daily voltage reading for each cell(during the initial 100 hrs, every quarter thereafter), and these records remained with the string for life. These were 20 yr batteries, so for warranty purposes the records were mandatory. So, my question is, does anyone believe it to be a good idea to float the new replacements with a trickle charger for 24hrs, maybe at 13. 5 volts, before installation?

Costco batt's are Johnson Control batt's same build as Interstate but not green and white case just black. Better warranty higher CCA. Installed Costco Batt's 2 years ago have never looked back. Cant really beat the price and warranty any costco any place.

My 2006 Dodge Diesel still has the original batterys in it. The truck only has 31,000 miles on it. It sits in the garage most of the time. So far the batterys hold up good.

I just replaced the batteries in my '06 with Oreilly Extreme AGM batteries. Warranty as good as any, and there is an O'reilly's in just about every town it seems! (At least in Arkansas/Missouri). Anyways, the batteries are sealed/maintenance free. So far, so good! Made in USA!!!!

Ok Thanks, I will check these out next week. BIG, after re-reading a different thread and pm's several times, I was mistaken about your delivery of thought. I Apologize to you for my post's.

CAT Part # 230-6368 for a Group 65, 880 CCA Rated.

Thanks Mike, this will help the me and the parts counter at WSE.

JJ water under the bridge just remember to make sure that the water is deep when im thrown off :-laf THIS IS NOT DEEP ENOUGH AND MAY HURT WHEN I HIT BOTTOM. Our state has some of the most beautiful spots in it. Im going back in the mountains in a week or so to help out some of the fishing people restore some spawning streams hauling in gravel. I told the wife that I feel that I should help the group out so our grand-kids will have a place to fish. I dont know if she bought it but FIL said it sounded good to him!!!

I am showing $120. 00 or so, but my pricing hasn't been updated on CAT batteries since last fall.

Don't forget the truck dealers either, just look for a CAT sign and ask if they are "TEPS" dealers. (Truck Engine Parts Sales)

If so you can buy CAT on-highway items cheaper at the truck dealer than you could at a CAT parts counter.

Measuring the battery voltage doesn't really tell you much. Disconnect a ground and load test each battery. Most auto parts & battery shops will do it for free. My 10 year old batteries still load test to 800 CCA. There's no reason to change them.

Costco batteries

I have posted several times commenting on the two OEM batteries in my '03 Dodge. I began my 10th year on these batteries six months ago and have just returned from an extended 2-month vacation during which time my truck was parked in my Colorado carport the entire time. Nighttime temperatures here at 9,000 feet got down in the 20s a number of times in March and April (sometimes May too), so I was concerned that I'd find dead batteries when I got back. I mean, after all, how long will OEM batteries last? My fears went unrealized as my old truck cranked right up just like she always did!

I checked with the Dodge dealer and asked for a battery recommendation -- somewhere along the way they gotta fail, right? He said the Costco battery comes closest to the OEMs. I checked the Costco price and they are (or were several months ago) $75 apiece in one of the Colorado Springs stores. You'll have to install 'em, though, 'cause that ain't something Costco does. Hope this helps.

Just replaced mine in my 03 bought in Jan. 03 96000 miles. Bought Walmart as you can find then most any where ... $87. 00 at the time ,but I see they have gone up...

What's the longest battery life any of you are aware of ? I still have both original batteries -- Mopar Cat. No. 65-60, Part No. 56028452AA -- and both are resting at 13. 85v and 13. 91v after sitting overnight. No issues with either one since I took delivery on June 29, 2003 -- a little over 9 years and 150,000 miles ago.

I have an 2007 dually with approx 52000 miles. Recently had to go to an dealer for an pinion seal replacemrnt. There 16 point inspection indicated that the batteries needed immediate attention. Upon returning home batteries showed 12. 62 volts. The truck has set since then and batteries show 12. 52 volts. We plan to travel this summer and dont want to get stranded somewhere. Batteries are 5 yrs old. What is your opinion? Also when at Sams Club they have an Duracell battery for around $89 with 835 CCA. I want to stay away from the Walmart brand which is Johnson Controls. Dealers want $103/battery plus $40 installation. Any advice appreciated.

The voltage showing 12. 62 is not the only test to show the batterys are still good. even though a fully charged 12v battery voltage is 12. 6 you must load test and analyze the battery to see if it is still operating to it's designed cold craking amperage. cranking amperage is what turns over the engine not voltage. Any good shop will test the batterys durring a good checkup or based on age. I don't cheap out on batterys or take chances with them. it's cheap insurance to change them. also a poor performing battery will cause premature alternator and stater failure because starter is not getting power it needs and alternator is working too hard to maintain charge. I would just change them out with quality batterys. Interstate, ACdelco, deka, ect. to save 10 bucks and but cheap crap doesnt pay when you are stuck out in the snow with dead batterys... .

My 04 was beginning to crank slower. Batteries 8 years old.

Put in a set of NAPA 84 Premium. Fortunately they gave me a break on the price... was $139 each... gave them to me for $104 each (trade price) since I've spent lots there.

What a difference in crank speed and startup!

One of the old batteries had the green eye not showing.

I still have original batts--same parts as you--mine's an '04 2500 (12 yrs old in Dec 15) with 280000 miles. They are getting tired, though, and I'll likely replace soon.
