I had 2 keys made at wally world for my (new to me) 08 3500, but they will not go in all the way. In the door or ignition.

They look to be cut exactly the same, they go in maybe a 1/4" or so.

I only recieved one key with the truck, it also has the push button lock/unlock on it too. I think the lady (at walmart) asked if I just need it to open the door. I think that question flew over my head, I don't re-call giving an answer.

What am I missing here?

I made several for the 04. 5 with no issues.

I feel left behind in the tech dept, I don't text either and yes the clock on my vcr is still flashing 12:00.

What kind of super key do I need?

thanks

Your keys were not the right blank or were cut incorrectly. I have had spare keys made by Wal-Mart but they will only open the driver's door. They will not work in the ignition because the security system will not accept them. The engine will start then immediately shut down and leave a tiny light in the instrument panel on or blinking, don't remember which.

As Harvey says, the Wally World keys will only open the door when cut correctly. If you want another for the ignition you need one with a chip in it.

As far as the spares that you just had cut place one freshly cut key over the existing good one. Look carefully at the ridges and see if one has a rough spot on it. If so you can clean it up with a small file. Then look directly at the ends of the keys and see if the contours of the blank match as well.

They also may not have placed the blanks or the original in the cutter correctly so that the whole key is an 1/8" or so out of whack lengthwise.

We cut keys here and they have to be almost exact to work properly.

I wanted an extra non-chiped key to open the doors and asked my local dealer if they could make one. They said they could and cut one for me at no charge. :)

If I remember correctly form the days when I made keys, there are two similar looking blanks for our trucks. You may have gotten the wrong one that has a shoulder in a different location.

If the key will only go in 1/4" inch the profile is probably not right(the grooves etc) Take them back and get another cut or get your money back. To geat a key that will open door and run ignition you will have to get the transponder blank key and and have it programmed at dealer. You have to have two working key to be able to program a new key yourself. Before you buy a transponder key better check dealer to see if they will re-program, they might get fussy if you don't buy it from them. Cost me $227. 00 for new key from dealer. After I got that key I bought a transponder key off ebay for aboput $30. 00, locksmith charged me $10. 00 to cut it and I programmed myself. bg

A chep metal key that's proper will start the truck. The computer will then kill it about 3seconds latter.

I know for a fact. On an 06

MAN are you kidding me

I just wanted an extra key to leave in the ignition

I'm not about to pay 100 or 200 bucks for a key, this is crazy.

How in the world can I just take that garbage off my truck?

I can't believe this mess

The keys look identical, when they cut them they just layed my key in the machine and it was suppose to have taken a 3-D picture of it, it told the lady which blank and she put it in there too.

Then BAM a new key is born.

It wasn't like the ones I remember, a vise kind of machine with cutting wheels, it was MAGIC

Is there any way possible to turn this securety junk off on the truck?

What will they think of next

I guess ill leave a window down some for my SPARE key.

Did you buy the truck from a dealer or an individual?.

Make a call or two, maybe you can track down the second key that came with the truck when it was new.

If you bought it from a dealer put the shame on them for not offering a second key.

Mike. :)

From a dealer

!!! WARNING !!! DANGER !!!

ALLEN SAMUALS in ENNIS TX

!!! KEEP OUT !!!

Yeah I missed the warning sign

I'll check with them, but I sure hate to stick my neck in there again.

The worlds MOST WORST dealer I have even dealt with.

Thanks

Am I missing something? You have a spare key to unlock the door and your security key to leave in the ignition? Just get your spare key cut right and your good to go.

If nothing else you could find the previous owner and see if they might still have the second key. ?... ?

That is fine until somebody looses the chipped key, then what do you do?.

I have at least one chipped spare key for each of the four Mopars in the yard.

At the very least, have the dealer cut you a spare chipped key, it does not have to have the remote on it.

Mike. :)

If you are satisfied with just a key to open the door, Walmart is perfectly capable of duplicating your key, you probably messed up when you chose the blank for the clerk. Take the ones you had cut back, they will make it good. As noted above, if you try to start the truck with a non chipped key three time the computer shuts everything down, then it's a trip to the dealer on a wrecker to get it reset. Fun, fun, fun. And yes, we have Allen Samuels here too. bg

When I bought my truck used, from a dealer, I pestered them until they sent me a second key. I got it cut. Then I went to the local dealer and they programmed it to the truck. The tech didn't even charge me to do it (said it was not worth the paperwork). I have to have 2 transponder keys on the '04 to make more. I have seen transponder keys on line for around $15 for mine. Ace hardware cut keys that worked fine to open the doors. Probably just need to go back and work it out. I have never had issues with places that cut keys. They always want to make it right.

If you don't want the security features of the transponder key, you can always fasten it inside the dash near the ignition switch. Make sure it's well hidden. Then when you get regular keys that will work the lock, the truck will see the transponder in the hidden key and work. Try it before you spend too much time hiding the key.
But don't blame me if someone steals your truck!

My dealer made a second key for my truck, he only had one for some reason. No charge. I've made a third by buying a chipped key and programming it to the truck myself. I got it cut at a hardware store, bought a non-chipped key from them and they cut them both. The non-chipped key is hidden somewhere in case of emergency.

Got the right one.

Took keys back and it seems the "smart" machine tells them to use one blank but the blank is for a GM product. The associate was a different person than before and he knew it used the Dodge blank.

Well it opens the door, that works for me.

I am still going to call the dealer and request another key.

Wow this stuff is getting crazy

You know both them blanks looked exactly the same except the handle portion.

Thanks

I had the experience of discovering an ordinary key without the transponder would unlock the door and start the engine momentarily before shutting it off with my '06.

I tried taping the transponder key to the steering column to see if I could leave it in the truck and use an ordinary key.

The truck's security system would not allow me to do that.

I found that out too.

Thanks

I'm happy, all I need is an extra key to open the door.

The real key will stay in the truck.

Thanks all
