Ya it was kind of funny Greg:-laf Earl is like the big kid on the block and the little guy just didnt have enough to try to stop. He's doing better now. Some of the other packers asked where we got the 4 of them they have a low center of gravity and it seems that they are built stocky and have had more weight on them than I care to. They are working into the crew pretty well. This pic is not us I KNOW FOR A FACT I get off and walk across this kind of terrain if they should roll and your on!!! well im sure you get the picture.
I rode across a scree slope on a borrowed horse, back in October, 1987. The critter was tossing his head and smacked me between the runnin' lights with his poll. All I saw was stars. Thankfully I did fall off on the uphill side:-laf. I'd still be sliding ifn I went off on the downhill! OUCH! That left a mark:{!
I believe that "BOB" may catch on as he works side by side with the other Mules. He just may need some "coaching" from EARL:-laf!
It will work by the end of hunting season he will be just fine. The other packers were impressed with the way the gang worked but we weren't moving everyday all day either. Went to their place to work on some rope ties. They are some of the people that are in that Vid that posted. She has some knots that have me baffled and I thought I was at least decent at rope's. But they didn't use the Double Diamond or single for that matter those are the basic ties.
I take no chances with trails like the picture above that is just to much of a risk for me. And most of the time it feels good to get off and walk for awhile anyway.
Been busy building tent stoves out of 30 gal drums for wood the coal is just to much of a hassle to haul and its heavy the wood is there to be cut. Jason and I cut 3 cords of wood while out so it will get us started.
Next trip will be around the first part of July friends from Ca are coming out for a month or so long trip. Should be a good time. Then taking in supplies in Aug for the season to start in Sept. Seems like lots of saddle time in the near future. New camp will be on the bluff on upper right nice spot easy water in the AM dark and fishing for the ones that do. You can just make out one fishing upper left.

That picture is not a good decision. . A good friend and myself chose to cross a shale fan similar to the one in the pic(Lower Granite Dam) to avoid a mile hike around. About 50 yds into the fan, the ground started buzzing, we were chucker hunting, so we had appropriate ammo, more damn rattlesnakes than I ever care to remember.
The snakes were probably the least threat, you should not cross an unstable slide like that.
I agree but in this case it was either cross a 400 yard section that felt pretty stable when I got off and walked it. Or ride 20 plus miles to get around the Chinese Wall. My BIL rode up next to me and asked if I remembered years earlier that he said not to go this way ? this is the reason. I have been on both sides of the Wall and One end of it I will never try this again. The area to the right of the picture is a beautiful valley that opened up and gave some grand vista's. The dead tree on the right of the pic the finger of rock that is about 1 inch (on the Pic) to the left of the tree is the place we crossed after that it was fine. We crossed from left to right on the pic. One small switchback
