I recently found that the window in my '98 quad cab passenger side rear door has become detached from the hinges. Some sort of glue is used to attach the window to the two sheet metal hinges on the forward edge of the window. Apparently the rubber seal got pulled out of its grove when I opened the window and then the rubber got pinched between the window and door frame when I closed the window which caused too much pressure on the hinges?? I have pulled the window completely off the truck by unbolting the swing out latch from the door frame so I can clean everything and re-insert the rubber seal properly. Has anyone found a good glue to re-attach the window to the two metal hinges? I bought some glue that's used for attaching a rear view mirror to a windshield, but thought I'd ask here first in case there's a better glue. I have not tried the Dodge dealer yet.

I'm not new to this forum, but this is my first post. I'm usually able to find the answers to my questions and problems using the search function. This forum has really been helpful over the past 1 1/2 years that I have owned this truck. I don't know how I ever got by in the early years before the internet and TDR!

Thanks,
Buzz

I'm certain it would be the same glue used for the rear view mirror.

not strong enough... ... you should be able to get a urethane for a glass shop. Just be careful it will stain anything it touches and takes about 24 hours to fully cure. It is a pain to get off your skin so most guys will wear gloves when working with it

Bob4X4,

I agree. That's sort of what I used. After cleaning everything around the window and door frame I re-installed the window gasket using a small amount of 3M black weather strip adhesive to keep it in the grove. The factory installed hinge adhesive remained on the window, it was sort of a thick layer and would not come off, so I left it on. I cleaned and scuffed the old adhesive surface and the hinge and did a couple trial fits. The old factory adhesive actually helped with aligning the window onto the hinges. I re-bolted the window latch to the door frame, applied the glue, and carefully positioned the window. The latch, along with a couple woodworking clamps held the window in place while it cured.

The glue has cured now for two days and it seems strong. We'll see. The good thing is that if the hinges do break loose again, the window won't immediately fall out because it's captured by the rear latch and the rubber weather strip in front that is captured by the front door... as long as the front door is closed.
