So MR Kelly

It does work like the old style jake brakes? the oil actuated solenoid was nothing more than a top hat type enclosure held down with a C clip under that was a Check ball with a spring to return it to normal when elect power wasn't applied to it. I have not been a big fan of exhaust brakes im sure that they have it figured out but they have to be hard on the turbo's that kind of back pressure on the turbo cant be a good thing. Where the new style(aka old style) is before the turbo I might be wrong its happened before. But I think and hope these work not only on 6. 7 but others as well they were twice as effective as exhaust brakes.

Just from experience, I will take my VGT e brake over any BD or PAC brake any day of the week.
I had an after market on my old truck and this works awesome. Not to bad mouth any manufacturers. But The VGT brake ROCKS in my opinion. For what I use it for, I love it. But I don't pull 32k lbs either. :)

On the new style it might be possible to divide the jake up into groups of cylinders. By that I meen the old style I had on my truck each jake took care of 2 cylinders on my set up (a 3 stage jake) the switch had 3 positions 1 for one set of jakes (2 CYLINDERS) 2 position for 4 cylinders and 3 for all 6 cylinders that was to control the amount of jake brake. Hope that made sense. As for how you use your exhaust brake on your truck I have no idea until recently I wasn't able to have one on mine because of the stock trans that has been corrected but I will wait until the verdict is in on the new set up. Happy trails :D

BIG.

I am looking forward to hearing some results as more people install this on their trucks. For me, I am fine with the brake I have. Saving my pennies for head studs and twins. LOL much more fun! LOL
And happy trails to you as well. ")

The efficacy of any engine retarding system is only as good as the connection to the drive wheels, ie transmission. Comparisons between a 47RE and a 68RFE are not valid because of the gearing differences. The same differences exist between a built 69RFE and a stocker.

The VGT brake is not as efficient as an add-on head to head, but, couple it with a better transmission plus controls and it will perform better. Build the transmisison and it performs even better.

The engine brake coupled with the VGT is probably the best you will find, outside of a fully integrated system. At 20k the difference is not going to be too obvious, at 35k it becomes much more evident.

There will be a point reached soon where one had better be a driver rather than a steering wheel holder, as the engine braking systems get more and more powerful the chances for an accident increase simply because the engine brake did not get shut off by the operator after unhooking from the load.

Any of you large car jockeys that have ever slid down the road sideways when bobtailing because you left the jake switch on high or 6 know what I mean... ... ... :D

Mike. :)

IT ALL GOES BACK TO POST # 13

I thought it was supposed to be used in SNOW AND RAIN WITH A SET OF JOINTS

YEEEEEE HAAAAA

Coming down the I77 southbound grade (5-6%) for about 5 miles at Fancy Gap, the EB held back my work trailer (10K) in 5th gear at about 50 miles an hour. Its a well-designed turbo brake.

it does not work in a way to shut off banks of cylinders. it is not hard at all on the vgt. the exhaust back pressure never exceeds 60 psi but you now see a manifold pressure. it feels at least 2x the bhp of the bd or pac

Sure wakes you up! :D

As for the brake, I still want one for the 12V..... would be cool. Oo.

Also a little disappointed at the lack of tech data PacBrake has released on it. :(

I can't believe the doubt on this thread... I sold my 08 but if I was still selling the product I'd buy one in an instant and use it... .

They've been in the engine brake business for a long time, earned a couple of court actions against Jacobs for patent infringements, have their own engineers and were approved for years to install engine brakes at the engine manufacturer before they started to incorporate them with their engine design...

All you need to do is drive a truck with an engine brake and imagine it interfaced with the ECM... sounds right to me especially for those using 3500 duallys 4500, and 5500's pulling large loads...

Just my thoughts...

Barlow is not worth your time to read and reply. He is probably

drunk in the evenings and just uneducated and uninformed the rest of the day. Fantasizes about driving trucks down the highway with Willy Nelson blasting ON THE ROAD AGAIN on the stereo. Gets his fuel for the RV at truck stops so as to make him feel like he's ONE OF THE BIG BOY'S. Ya life on the road must have really been a B**** when your pullin a 8K RV :-laf

That is just an assumption. A good one though :-laf !:-laf

My wife and I drove a puppy Freightliner M2 Sportchassis last year. It had a two stage eBrake and it was awesomely better than my 6. 7L.

Sounds like a great accessory if you're pulling major loads all of the time and working your truck commercially, but my regular factory 6. 7 EB works fine for my RV and firewood trailer pulling duties.

Even with my regular EB, I love to watch the look on tailgaters' faces when I let off the gas pedal and the truck slows down without any brake lights! :D Oh,Oo. the fun you could have with that PACBRAKE!!

I was on the fence about adding this, I live close enough to just run up there and have them do the install. I realized that I just don't go heavy enough or long enough to justify the expense. Just clicked over 45,000 on a truck I bought new in Sept. 07; and highest scale wt ever was 17,700. If I ever get retired, and the 'Long Haul' prototype becomes reality, I would be in for sure.

I know anything about HB. He said the first part of that in a post about me so it sounded good to use as retaliation. I have a beer most days before dinner to wash the trail dust down if thats being a drunk then a drunk Iam. As for the second part of that get a license and get some A** time in a seat and then some might take what is said about driving a LITTLE MORE SERIOUSLY
