DEK 6500 generator

I am repairing a Dek 6500 engine powered generator, It has 13 hp motor. What I need is the recoil starter. Have ordered one but got a call from vendor today saying it was on backorder and no promise date. Anyone have one or any info as to where I might find one? Thanks. bge

Need more info. What brand engine? Serial/ model numbers on the engine?
I know northern tool has lots of engine parts. Sears parts central is good too.

# on base of engine is 6510025. Another number I found was 6GXNS. 3892GJ and a code #0605. I'm guessing this is a Chinese generator? bg

The Chinese stuff is a problem to repair. The GX in the numbers you gave me could mean it's a Honda. I googled the groups and came up empty. I know Hondas have trouble with the recoil starters. Maybe Northerntool.com has something.

Thanks Wayne, I just called Sears and gave them the numbers I have found. None were usable, said model number should be on frame. The unit is about a mile from here, will have to look again. Thanks, bg

If the engine is a Honda clone, a Honda recoil may bolt right on. Failing that, Honda parts will repair a clone starter. What's wrong that you have to replace it? These starters (at least the Honda) are usually repairable unless you ran it over with your truck.

Will check on the Honda parts? The hard plastic/resin housing that contains the fingers that come out and engage the cylinder bolted to the flywheel is broken and one of the fingers is missing (they won't stay in) because of the break. I think the rewind spring is also broken as the rope comes out with no resistance. The "running over with my truck" has crossed my mind but it's not mine, belongs to a neighbor of my son. No, it's a gasoline engine, 13hp on the recoils housing, I believe that is a 401cc engine, might be a Honda clone as suggested above? bg

I'd try a Honda starter.
