I have a 2010 and I have never changed the fuel filter on it. Could you tell me the easiest, cleanest way to change the fuel filter and how to fill the fuel filter with fuel or bleed it off. On my 1998 it was pretty simple but this one looks to be a little more complex. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

I removed the stock hose and replaced with a longer hose to get below the front axle.

Turn the drain valve to drain the fuel into a bucket.

Use a 1 1/8" socket with a long extension to remove the cap off the housing. Swap out the old filter for a new one. Re install the cap and close the drain valve. Cycle the key 3 times for about 10 seconds each now start the truck.

Others can add their methods.

I didn't have the right size hose on hand so I used an old 1qt oil bottle to catch the fuel. I just set it on top of something in there, I think it was the axle, can't remember. Plastic caps don't need to be so tight, so don't reef on it when you put it back on.

Thanks
One more question do U leave the filter loose to get the air out of the systen or is there some other way that works ?

Do you actually have to drain the filter canister before changing the filter, or can you carefully remove the filter, and replace it with the new filter, as I did on my '06 5. 9, without draining?

Sure you can. I think the idea is to remove any sediment and water particles. I let mine drain for a few minutes so when removing the filter it does not drip all over.

If you don't drain the housing you are ramming the new filter right back into the crappy fuel and water mix that was laying in the bottom of the housing.

No thanks, given the current price of injectors and such I'll keep draining mine.

Just go to the hardware store and get some clear tubing to add to the drain line so that it will hit a drain pan dead on. Mine both drain right behind the front differential with the extensions in place.

It only takes about 4 key bumps/lift pump cycles to refill it from stone dry after a change and they start right up.

Mike. :)
