My 60th Birthday....See what I got to do!

August 30th was my 60th B. day. That day my wife and two daughters gave me a card and said to open it. I see this picture of a WWII airplane... . WTF? I asked my wife "Did you buy me an airplane?" jokingly. She said that she, my two daughters and son-in-law got me an hour flight in a 1941 Vultee BT13 trainer! We went to the Paso Robles Ca. airport on labor day and met the pilot. The plane had just 250 hours since a full restoration. She has a 450hp, 9cyl radial Pratt-Whitney. We took off and flew toward the Central Calif coast to Cayucos. We dodged down to about 200ft above the water and buzzed over the Cayucos pier. From there we went north to Hearst Castle and did a few high circles over the castle. From there we flew to the west end of Nacimento lake and dropped into the narrows then on to over the lake. We dropped down to 100ft above the water looking for the unclad women on the lake. This guy was good, 4 yrs old and has flew about everything old with wings. I have the BEST wife and KIDS!!!

So Im confused here. Was the gift the ride in such a cool old airplane ? Or was it the "fly by" to see the unclad woman ?

Years ago at a fly-in at a regional airport, they announced rides for sale, Cessna that away and a thing called a Stearman, I asked some guy what a Stearman is, he pointed, I paid, first in line, what a hoot! Biplane, tail dragger radial.

What an awesome gift! I love the sound of the big radials!

Ah yes! I do love the sound of them too. If I hear one coming which usually do before it comes over the horizon, I'll stop what I'm doing, stand in awe, and watch it go by from horizon to horizon while "soaking up" the sound.

Well the FIRST intent was the flight itself... ... Anything else was a bonus. Unfortunately we didn't see any unclad women but the flight was a life time rush!

Well too bad. But in my 60's myself, I guess the airplane ride is probably the bigger thrill.
