The way it's being hyped it sounds like the end of the world. Perhaps it will be another "storm of the century", even though the century still has 88 years to go.

They have nothing else to gripe and report about LINSEY LOWHAN is behaving herself. :-laf
OK,OK,OK, I'll BITE! Yep, NY STATE (not city), NJ, and CT are all in states of emergency!! NY CITY is not yet in a state of emergency. There are evacuations and such happening on Long Island, and I personally know of some elderly being brought to higher ground here. The entire perimeter of my island is a FEMA flood zone. Places where there are swamp and cattails- where they SHOULD NEVER have built houses. I am at 80~ feet elevation with a steady pitch right down to a main creek that goes out to the Arthur Kill. I'm as ready as I'll ever be- and I haven't been to a store. OK, maybe I'll run out and see if they got any milk left...Water is gravity fed from the Catskills. Electric could be a problem, since it's too reliable and I have no backup. It's not too cold out, so heat is not a real issue now.
Stopped at the grocery store to pick up a can of coffee yesterday morning and the lady in front of us had 6 gal. of milk. Hello people, you can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting cow..... you're not going to run out. :-laf
Not only that, but that 6 gallons of milk is going to be trashed in short order if the power goes out.
They won't realize that swingin' the door on a dead fridge during an extended power outage is counter-productive to shelf life.
Powered milk would be a lot smarter but I bet the stores still have plenty of that... ... .

There is no doubt that cable news networks are covering this as a major event... and warnings and evac notices are going out. I think Katrina told a sad tale of what happens when mankind becomes complacent in the face of Mother Nature. I hope folks in the path of this event learned from other recent disasters and are prepared.
Best wishes to those who might be affected by it.
