Hello everyone, I know the oil saga has been covered many times before but I was wondering if anyone had any input on Lucus Magnum oil, it claims to still be CI 4 and high TBN, I can get a great discount on it at local Napa. I have been using Delo 400 CJ 4 and was just looking to get back to CI 4, but still want a good oil (which I know Delo to be ) hopefully someone has tried the oil or has info on it. I dug up an old chart and lucus was mentioned, but I noticed that when Delo was still CI 4 it had a better TBN rating than Lucus, but not for sure now with Delo being CJ 4, lucus might be better now since it is still CI 4. Any info or opinions would be appreciated and thanks in advance. Matthew

The "Dello" oil is MUCH better than the Lucas. In my opinion, Lucas oils are not very well formulated, in many comparison tests I have seen.

Thanks amsoilman, I was just wondering that since its getting harder to get CI-4 if Lucus would be a good substitute with its hi tbn claims and other claims. Hoping some people had maybe tried it and might have an opinion. Thanks again.

I am at about 40,000 miles on Lucas Magnum oil in my Dodges. So far I have nothing negitive or positive to report. The change from the previous oil was seemless.

I buy whats on sale at the time that I need it, in whatever store I happen to be in. All the name brands or store brands in 15/40 heavy duty diesel oil. I do shy away from exotic brands that tend to be exclusive to certain stores. I have never had an oil releated failure of any engine or gear box in my rigs, however, in the last 15 years I have used 250 gallons of oil  I change often:)

Good lordy. In the past 6 years and 108,000 miles I have changed mine a total of 5 times.

It's not so much the oil, it's the 305HP engine.
Very true. You can do it if you run a bypass oil filter on the 04. 5 up to the 07 5. 9l. I run Amsoil AME 15W-40, a single full flow oil filter (Amsoil Eao80 or Donalson ELF7349) and no bypass.

rs, since I was a farmer and equipment has hour meters, I still catch myself thinking in "hours" rather than "miles". If you averaged 45 mph, you would have 466 hours on that oil. I also have a clean running 305 motor and I would cringe (terribly) if I had to go over 300 hrs between changes without a bypass filter. Wishing you the best. Mark

I have the analysis reports backing up my OCI's and they all have come back that the oil is still in great shape. Currently I have 192,000 miles on the truck and 5358 hrs. So that averages out to an average of 35. 8 mph

Navydood, I guess maybe I won't beat up on myself so bad when I slip up and go a little past a scheduled change now!!! Mark

You can still get Delo in CI-4+. It is their Multigrade 15w-40 and is sold at Farm/Ranch stores and Chevron lubricant distributors.

it can only be sold in 5 gallon and 55 gallon size but as zbrooks states, there is no problem getting it. the CI-4+ oil just has 15w-40 on the pail or drum the cj-4 has LE before or after the 15w-40

This thread reminded me I should change my oil sometime soonish. Ive had 3 gal and a filter sitting in my shop for ~6 months for it. :)

I, too, buy whatever the cheapest oil o'reillys has when I'm in the store. For a long time I ran cheap Vato Zone "coastal", because it was still CI when everything else was CJ. Not the case anymore, unfortunately.
