I'm taking my 08 4x4 in for some routine maintenance (lube, oil, etc) I have 116k on her with no problems. Should I check to see if I have the latest flashes (J35?) and get them done or should I leave it alone. Kinda thinking if it ain't broke don't fix it, you know. Thanks.
Just thought I would put in my 2 cents . On my first 04 dodge ( the one that got miss placed ) at about 60k I lost the fuel transfer pump on the side of the block. Under warrenty , I took it to the dealership and had it replaced. When I got the truck back there was a sticker under the hood saying that the computer had been flashed and new up dates had been added. The truck went from 18-19 MPG to 14 MPG , Hand figured not on the overhead computer. I talked to a friend that works at Cummins, he told me to bring it down and they would reset back to the factory peramiters. $250 later they reset everything and the milage came back. Talked to the dealership about it and I might as well talk to a wall, I got the same blank stares... . My wifes 05 has never been to the dealership so it has never been flashed, she gets a consistant 18-20 MPG. The new 04 that I have now had been flashed years ago, got 14-15 MPG when I bought it. Took it to Cummins and had it reset, now 18-19. Just some food for thought... .
Your wife's truck is doing much better than typical '04. 5+ trucks mileage wise. Keep it.Just thought I would put in my 2 cents . Regcabguy..... Its been a fantastic truck, fact is all my trucks have been. There all paid for ,that helps alot. Bob4X4... . I was simply stating that not all updates are the best thing to do.
I would tend to agree on some instances, but the J35 did indeed help with the regen issues. MPG will definately decrease with J35 as the regen process occurs far more frequently.

Not the case with my C&C, I never had any problems nor did I ever notice it was in regen. Once on a road trip, I noticed a different sounding engine, at one point I pulled over and opened hood and check for the obvious. But I never knew when in regen, nor did I ever see a check engine light. After the flash, my truck seemed to have a sticking throttle to a point I complained to Dodge and they replaced the throttle position sensor that did not fix it. The sticking throttle turned out to be the regen program that detunes in lower RPM and then surges past 2K RPM, (keep in mind mine has the G56) that eventually took out my clutch when it surged pulling a load up a grade. Before being updated again, it would even stall, even when at 50 MPH, when the regen started, it caused me to panic at one point looking for a place to pull over without getting hit when it came back to life. I immediately took it to Dodge that confirmed it was in regen with a road trip and their computer connected. I know when in regen now when I come to a stop and the EB will be on and fade after a few seconds. I know to shift below 2K RPM, and lightly accelerate until regen is over. If the OP has the G56 he should not flash the truck if its a virgin ECM. Once its done there's no going back. It was explained to me that even if you ordered a new ECM it comes without the program and then has to be uploaded once installed in the truck. The new regen process is much better controlled than the old way
