Thanks for the help and info for the trans swap in my international truck. I knew that there was a man down the way that has logging trucks and finally talked to him in town. He also has an International truck as a service truck that is an automatic. He didnt think that the 500 series Allison's would be enough for my International he asked about the HP and what had been done to it. He suggested the 600 series as it would be much stronger?
He came to the house to take a look at my truck and said that he has a 600 series trans that would fit with some floorboard mod done (BIL is going to do the swap said NO BIG DEAL) the trans has a KEY PAD for a shifter and he said it would only need to have an RPM LEAD to make the trans work unless I wanted to make a MANUAL SHIFT AUTO. Meaning that I would have to push a button on the key pad to make it shift. With the RPM lead from the motor it could be used manual shift or full auto shift. He has all the parts to do the job he had it as a spare for his International but has bought more logging trucks and needs more of a service truck also. He came down with the parts today and just gave them to the wife (I was not home) and told her to catch him later on the price or dont worry about it either way he needed the room in his shop.
I have never driven an auto big truck. Do they down shift on their own? or can I make it to where I HAVE CONTROL OF THE DOWN SHIFT. The reason Im asking is downshifting at the wrong time IN THE SNOW could have disastrous results ( like I said ive never driven one)
Thanks again for the help and all the info.
