Archived broke down 09 6.7... shut down

Taking a trip to idaho and had the truck go into low power. No warning on DPF. %. Smoke out the pipe, and no power. Check engine light on. . all flies up. Tried to drain ff. Having towed to dealer. 35k miles. . never had a problem til now.

What is "all flies up"?. Did you just refuel kinda close to when this happened?

Sorry. All fluids are up. . there is black smoke out the pipe and no throttle response. . idles a little then dies. Lift pump runs. . i tried to drain the ff, no help. . truck is at the dealer now and they are open tomorrow.

Was wondering if it was the DPF but there was no % full warning before the derate and CEL light on. . very strange.

Possible fuel gelling? Was it cold enough?

Partly sunny and 28 deg. Was going down the freeway for over an hour when it happened. And i use the grey additive bottle

77 mile tow to my local dealer. . good thing it didn't happen 200 miles away. . truck is at dealer and i am home. So guess where i go first thing tomorrow?. Gotta get refund of tow bill. $378.

Wow. That's a pricey tow. Glad you and your truck made it back into town. Keep us ported.

The tow truck was a Ford F800 crew cab with dodge seats, with a 12 valve 5. 9 cummins and 6 speed manual. If my truck is to be towed, best with that setup!!

No, dealer near my home. . nearest dealer was about 30 miles from breakdown spot. . this dealer is where i bought it

Towing rates have always bewildered me. I understand it costs money for equipment, insurance, fuel, and so forth, but it just feels like your bieng gouged all the time. The wife broke down over the summer and I was out of town. She was less than a mile from home and they charged her 98 bucks. The towing company she called was located right in town where she broke down at. Rediculous.
Glad you were at least close enough you could get home, nothing worse than bieng stranded out of town for the holidays.

Chrysler will usually only pay for the tow to the nearest dealer if it is a covered tow

Bob, I realized that. . they may pay for a portion of it. . It was just convenience to be close to home. Well the truck is in the dealer now and starting to go through it. . we will see. . hope it is a simple repair. Might have to have a fuel filter in the truck on hand for just this reason if it is discovered to be that cause.

I always have AAA Plus coverage and it's not that expensive. With that i can get towed 100 miles on any vehicle I'm in, even if I don't own it.
