I'm looking to go to EFI live tuning, and was wondering who is the premire tuner to go to for custom maps? I am in new york but from what i understand the data logging and maps can all be sent via email so proximity isn't an issue. although i wouldn't mind getting the truck tuned on a dyno for an even better tune. who's the go-to guy for the cummins 5. 9 tunes? thanks

You are correct in that the only way to get a truly custom tune is to get on the dyno with a pro. But there are quite a few tuners out there that will sell you an "off-the-self" tune. If you go to EFILIve's web site they have a list of vendors. Cummins tuning is still early but there are a lot of Duramax guys with quite a bit of experience to carry over to the Cummins.
When I get my twins on (this week I hope) I'm going to Rich Salvio over in Alabama to get on his dyno. He won't even sell a standard tune, only custom, as every truck is a little different. There are some very knowledgeable posts on the EFI forum and quite a few vendors on there as well. I have been doing my own tuning so far with no smoke, high mileage, driveablity as goals and it has been very enlightening. I added a little duration to make it fun but without a dyno your tuning blind for power.

Zach at Starlite Diesel is who I used on my 2009. . Very good tuner, and also Les at Silver Bullet Tuning. I worked with him for bit. Both good at what they do.

I have had several PM/thread chat's with Les at Silver Bullet Tuning and he is who I would go to first and foremost.

You will not get a full potential tune via email, but you can get a great one. If you are out for a mild tow/efficiency tune then mail order isn't a big deal, but a all out drag/pulling tune isn't as easy.

thanks for feedback, i'm reaching out to these guys. I'm looking to build a reliable daily driver, tow, plow, and work truck. no racing or sled pulling here. my goal would be to get to 500-600hp one day... .

I think I would disagree with the above statements. You do not need to get on a dyno to have a custom tune built for your truck. Get the v2, pull your stock file, send stock file off to a tuner, get tune from tuner and load it up, data log the various driving scenarios and send the logs to the tuner, tuner makes tweaks to the tune, repeat until satisfied. A dyno tuning experience will help you squeak out every last bit of HP without blowing up your engine like stepping up the timing, but it isn't a necessity for the "custom tune" experience. I am using Les @ silver bullet tuning and will always recommend him. His customer service, skill and willingness to never stop until you the customer are 110% satisfied with the product are what sold me on his tuning. The others mentioned I have no experience with so I can't say one way or the other.

anyone using efi live with any feedback?

As far as feedback is concerned, I went from getting 10-11 mpg with bullydog tuning and 50 hp injectors to getting 15mpg with 125 hp injectors. The mileage increase is amazing, but IMO that's not the best part. The truck just runs so much smoother. Driving down the highway is a joy now without all the engine racket I was hearing before.

To get a full potential tune you need a dyno, to get an average tune you do not. Les is a great tuner and a great guy but there are still going to be limits to his tuning via email that he wont exceed where he might on a dyno.

Any EFI Live tune is custom, so yes you can get a custom tune without a dyno. .

I am not saying there is anything against a non-dyno tune, it's how I have tuned my truck with UDC. Just realize the limits for non-dyno are lower than tuning with a dyno, but if your power goals don't get to the limits then it doesn't really matter.

A 500~600 HP daily driver will cost&$$$

Thats exactly what I stated in my post. If you are wanting to squeek out every single bit of HP, yes you need to do it on a dyno to have a bit of control when you are doing things like increasing the timing. We are on the same page, just different language to get there lol

Wondering if anyone had been getting into efi live tuning with cummins now that it's been out for a little while now, I heard they have the on the fly switchable tunes now like dmax. I'm still trying to see who is best tuner to use

I'd give Dave Matthews from Draconian Diesel a shot.

He's a Cummins tuning guru. I'm running his heavy tow tune on my 6. 7 and have never been happier!

He's crazy busy, so it might take a day or 2 to get a response.
