Mike, the organic coolant that was original spec does not call for additives, like our rams. There wouldn't be a filter in the original spec. See post #16. We don't know what happened to the truck in the interim.

Just checked the specs, I'm betting $20. 00 that Penske Texaco ELC fill is the same stuff that CAT sells under the CAT brand. Same properties, same use of extender, etc.

CAT coolant is what I was going to recommend for his use. One time, done. No filter, no extender for at least 300,000 miles provided he sticks with it for top-offs.

We sell pallets of the CAT product, a lot of folks use it. .

Fact sheet from CAT, they do admit several pages in that TEXACO ELC is approved for use as well (so same, same)... .

So in my opinion do a serious flush if the Navistar dealer used something else after the overhaul and get the CAT ELC in there. No more worries. (At least about anti-freeze:D)

Thanks Mike and Wayne. I do not have any paper work on the rebuild, the dealer where I bought the truck from (International Truck of Phil,Pa. ) told me that if I still wanted the truck they would pay the bulk of the rebuild and I only would have to pay the $2500. 00 to Bucks County when I picked up the truck. I agreed to his offer and picked up the truck a week later. I suppose I could call Bucks County tomorrow and try to get some paper work ( I doubt they would have any), but you never know. Mike I'll take your advise and dump the coolant and go with the cat product. I'll be sure to chck the color of the coolant. Thanks again, Frank

I guess that stuff is not what I thought it was. . NEVER ARGUE WITH THE PARTS DUDE :-laf

I didnt have a chance to compare specs. That's sound advice... I agree. Frank, Stick with it. It's going to be a good truck after it's ironed out. Should be all pre emission too, Another plus.

Wayne, it has been a great truck for me so far. The only things on my wish list are : some more H. P. and torque, limited slip rear end,4x4 and tow hooks. Heavy truck! Doesn't do to good once you take her off payment! Thank god for my cummins powered trucks they do pull hard!!! I had 35,000 pounds total weight (weight ticket from quarry) of crushed stone in the dump body and got her stuck. Had to use my pickup truck to pull over 150 yards to free the International!!! I thought the ground was a little firmer, do to the cold night ! Never mine! HA,Ha ! Anyway, checked the antifreeze for color this morning and it's a orange to light red in color. Hopefully, that's the right antifreeze!!! Thanks again. Frank
