Ed,

I certainly hope that you manage to get rid of your '12 that's obviously troubling you so much. It isn't worth it for any material item to make one miserable. I hope that the '13 works out for you.

As for me, I'll continue to enjoy my '11 as it tows our 5th wheel just fine and has been absolutely trouble-free. It's only seen the dealership for routine service (they provide oil changes for less than I can perform them). Fuel mileage is now as good or better than my bombed '02 ETH/DEE 3500.

We'll I been waiting for 3 Years for the Asin to be available in the PU with the new Urea I will be Ordering ASAP (Ram is Not taking orders at this Time) the urea is Not a problem for me We have gallons of it at Bioclean,Scuttlebutt at the Cummins Here in Fridley has it the NEW emission component's are light years ahead of blue-Tech,Hmmmmmmm

New, more complicated, most of the new is to satisfy the environmental punishment a**'s and make the trucks more difficult to service, get decent efficiency and long lives. The real problem is that the regulations have no requirement to be cost effective, the so called plantiff's are in bed with the regulatory goons. That complicated by the bureaucrats need to justify their continued existence and growth of the organization (first and second laws of a bureaucracy) we are doomed. The justification of their regulations is to reduce emissions by x percentage, where x is a percentage of what they view as bad emissions currently. No admission that the real reduction from the original baseline is only . 05% or less. It is all a scam.

It's time to get someone in the EPA that knows something about the real world..... Understands it... . Need I say more?
Dont get me wrong the 2012 is an awesome truck more power than I'll ever need just I don't like to spend more, burn more to do the same job. None of us should nor should we put up with it.

The delivery date for the NEW 2013 Mid April, The system will NOT take orders until Late Jan 13, The standards for the EPA were OUT years before they were mandated, and the EPA has Not wavier, Look at Cat they paid the fines for 4 years until the standard was mandated, then Stop production of OTR engines, Cat Now Meets the Global 2010 Emissions. All the manufactures are some what guilty of not trying to hit a home run with the EPA, the R&R was NOT done in advance until it was too Late, couple that with the recession bought on by the Americans pubic uncontrolled spending prior to 2007-08 (and still going on) cripple the research necessary to overcome the standard WITHOUT sacrificing something. Now factor in the bankruptcy with weather OR Not the power plant was even going to be produce, Look How OBAMA kill the GM 4. 3L diesel for the hybrid car. Some bad decision were made during the bankruptcy,The American public is Still NOT willing to go Diesel for DD use, even when the diesel is cleaner and will produce at least 20-30% increase mileage, look at the 40MPG that some small diesel get and Meet the EPA standards,The EPA is a big part of the problem but NOT all.

CAT might meet the 2010 global regs but their equiptment is not holding up. We've got the new C9's as gen sets and they are not so good. Between Injector issues wiring and sensor issues. Not even 7,000 hours running time and we almost have to keep a CAT tec on call to keep them running. Just this past week one of our units had the seals and an injector fail and fill the crankcase with fuel. Just what you want in a new ship on a holiday weekend. The Cummins/ Boch system at least seems to work.

Well Ram does it AGAIN at this Time NO 4:10 ratio WITH SRW, DRW are out of the Question, I had them In the early 90s and they ****, On the Job are Tight Alleys that the trailers Need to Maneuver that the DRW just cannot,At the landfills/Tran site are another Problem. Maybe someone could shed some light on this,My Point Who and the heck would Buy a 3500 SRW and want 3:73/3:42? 2500 I could see that gearing UGH.

I am betting that if the trailer is in the GVW and Combined rating of the 3500 SRW and gear they offer to you, you will be just fine. Really how much differnce is there between 3. 73 and 4. 10 in seat of the pants feel and driveability? But I do agree options are always nice to have.

Fuel Mileage Update

I never did get the pencil out on the last trip but I did on a 600 mile trip. 9. 3 MPG at real close to 21,000 combined going down the road. The trip was from Bakersfield to Furnace Creek in Death Valley NP. This was a round trip over a 5,000 ft pass and a 3800 ft pass with smaller passes thrown in. Certainly not a flat trip.

The 5. 000 foot pass is Towne Pass into Death Valley. A 6% grade on the west side and a LONG 5% on the east. On the 6% I got down to 40 MPH. A grade I used to do at less than 30 MPH in my Ferd 460 mini motorhome at a LOT less weight.

The manual is right, to break these babys in you need to pull! It keeps getting better.

Huge difference in Stop and go city Traffic. He's a Picture of 1 of our triple Axles, No need to worry readers, Both of our Pulling Trucks have upgraded suspension and Brakes, All are 100% legal.

But the new Auto's do have lower gearing so that helps even if you can only get a 3. 73... . so what is your total weigh when fully loaded up? Would you be under the gross combined weight rating?

The Trucks NEVER Leave MN when Pulling,But it never gets over the tag weight (Power vehicle), But it does Pull more then the gross combine factory Tag, Thats allowed (Under law) as long as the tow vehicle Meets the minimum Standards,It gets complex from here. I may just swap gears, The truck Pictured Had 238 Miles on it when dropped and modded the Trans,it went to 104K then Dave Built the 48re thats in it Now at 138K.

What kind of EGT's are you guys getting in the new 2012 3500's? I have a new 2012 3500 laramie dually that i will be using to tow a 11000lb fifth wheel here when camping season rolls around, so i was just curious as to the EGT levels when pulling.

Ok, I'm happy to report that all is good. The truck has been running great. My Mpg's are holding at 16. 5 week in week out even in this extream cold we'er having here in Ny. I did take a long trip all highway and got 18. 2 for the tank. The truck never went into re-gen the whole tank/ trip. I guess it's as good as it's going to get. My dealer has informed me that the 13's are a long way away like april or may they can't even take orders yet. As long as this 2012 truck keeps running and the Mpg's stay above 16 I'm gonna hold on to it as it is very much a pleasure to drive. I was able to track down the underhood light and harness. I wish that I could track down the old underhood droplight that my 89 had. That light came in handy when helping ford and GMC owners.....

EDankievitch, did you say you got a re-flash, or injectors fixed? If I ever get over 15MPG, I night even drive it more... .

I understand from my local dealer that 2500's will be the first out the gate in Feb and the 3500 DRW's will be late April, May. This from the fleet saleman who has been at it a long time and seems to know his stuff.

Anybody but me starting to lose interest in the new trucks? The 2013s should have been out five or six months ago. I understand some of their marketing foo, but it's beginning to get anticlimactic, and a little on the stupid side.
