I noticed my filter minder is sucking down even after replacing the air filter (factory) and fuel filter. A year ago I did a little experiment. I bought a Amsoil air filter and put it in... no suck down. I had a brand new fleet guard filter put it in, drove the same distance. same road, same speed and noticed suck down.

This time I noticed it sucked down about over a half. Never been that far before. Should I be looking at something?

No Mods. 104K miles. Took the filter out and everything looks and feels clear for the air intake. Also just changed the crankcase Vent filter. A little brownish smoke under hard acceleration, more noticeable at night when a car with lights is behind me. Guess I'll keep and eye on it

I can pull mine halfway pretty much at will, I take that as a positive indication of the integrity of the factory air intake system.

I would worry more if the restriction gauge never came up.

Mike. :)

The new style Mopar filters I've been using the last couple of years have much more filter area and the filter minder pulls down much less even when putting the hammer down on uphill grades with the RV in tow.

You mentioned the filter is a Fleetguard, I think that is your problem. The factory/OEM is no longer the Fleetguard. The Fleetguard is a 2" deep filter that is prone to low flow, and was replaced by a MOPAR 4" pleated filter. The 2" Amsoil has also been discontinued for lack of flow.

The new (since 2009) MOPAR filter is a beast, it's flow's plenty of air and holds a ton of dirt. With a home depot cold air kit I am not moving my filter minder with an aftermarket turbo and cam (i. e. flowing a LOT more air than stock) running 415/850 to the ground, and my filter has 23K miles on it.

If you can move the filter minder on the new filter with stock or close to stock then you issue is most likely the air box. From my own testing the opening in the airbox is the restriction, not the filter.

Here is picture of the old and new Mopar filters side by side. My filter minder has not moved since using the new 4" design.

Guess, I'll drill a couple of holes and order the Mopar filter... ... Thanks everyone!!

If you do any slow speed towing I would spend the $20 an do a Home Depot CAI, it will pull cooler outside air than the holes will. The air on that side of the engine bay is VERY hot, I have measured it at +150° over the air inside the box while pulling a grade at 55 mph and towing.

The combination of the hot compressor discharge pipe and warm radiator return makes for some hot air. The boost is the biggest factor, I can watch the temp in that part of the engine bay increase with boost every time.

take ah64id advice. we changed our 5. 9 boxes to 6. 7 and added the psm kit. the 6. 7 filter is a little bigger and now we only have to stock one filter
