tx to sanjose to reno to yellowstone tips things to see please?

leaving in 2 weeks form dfw to sanjose the tahoe area then reno then out to yellow stone. then home (sanjose and tahoe is family visits)



And winter driving tips (i know all about donner pass I80) we played on it while it was closed all the time: fyi i am a decsendant of the donner party! anyone wanna meet for dinner? lol!



Thing to see hiways o avoid headed to those areas?

I read i have to enter yellowstone on the nort side since park is closed to personal vehicles in the winter.



It will be my wife and 2 yr old boy!



Beside CA what r the chl laws only if u know facts please i have a tx one.

Check the NRA website but you can be confident the left coast, CA, OR, and WA plus NV will not recognize your TX CHL and won't have any tolerance for handguns.

My wife and I have visited Yellowstone NP and the Grand Teton NP this time of year. We went to the Grand Teton first and visited the Elk Refuge and then to Yellowstone. We stayed at the Flagg Ranch at the southern end of Yellowstone. From there you can snowmobile and/or ride a snow cat to other parts of the park. http://www.gtlc.com/headwaters-lodge.aspx

My wife's uncle lives in South Lake Tahoe, CA. it's beautiful this time of year.

Well I don't know the law in California, however after living here for 48 years. Beware, do not Keep your gun and ammo in the same container when transporting, separate them from one another. I don't mean one box next to another as separate. Keep the gun in the trunk with the proper locks and safeties and ammo in the glove box, and be sure they are legally registered in the state you have residence in. Good luck and have fun on your trip. Careful of the weather, the last time I stayed in Tahoe, I was lucky to get over the pass into Reno before they closed it due to inclimate weather and what should have been an eight hour trip home became a 14 hour trip down the East side of the Sierra's on HWY 95. We were the last car to get out of Tahoe that day.

I dont know what kind of issues you might have or what the legalities are. But washington is an open carry state.

Not sure what your plans are for Yellowstone, but all roads are closed in the winter except for the Mammoth to Cooke City road. You won't be able to get to any major sites, i. e. Old Faithful, etc. unless you go as part of a guided snowmobile tour. Mammoth to Cooke City road is ok, but nothing special. Then if you plan to leave through Cooke, you will have to contend with Chief Joseph highway which can be nasty if the roads are bad.

ok we do plan on the snow charter bus tour thing in yellowstone.
Tahoe is beatiful we were an hr west in ca and flew up i80 to tube and play- when 80 is shut down its clear sailing! with a jacked up ram charger back in the day lol

I-80 can be nasty, but it is cleared as fast as they can do it. It's the idots that think they can drive 70 mph with their "four wheel drive" and crash. That closes the road more than any of the weather problems. Are you towing? I can be available for road conditions if you need it (cams, chp website, etc). Just pm for a phone number. Where in TX are you located?

Donner party is a lesson for all to remember, don't take short cuts. You mentioned your related to someone from the Donner party, were you serious?

I live in Fort Worth TX and doing a huge loop south to tahoe to yellowstone then south through denver and south to Tx.



I still have family in Cedar hill.

J-- tire chains wouldn't be necessary if you're not towing anything and have 4x4.

I recommend them. You may need them on some of the mountain passes out west.

I never travel with out a set of chains in winter time. The road conditions change by the minute when you are driving here. If going through Missoula there is the Rocky mountain elk Foundation. Yellowstone is beautiful this time of year.

When I lived in NV there were times over I80 that they would check 4x4's to be sure that you had chains you didn't have to have them on but you had to have them & that you were in 4 wheel drive. I would carry them just in case.

If you come down the 395 on your way back, stop at the smokehouse on the main drag in Bishop and get some jerky.

yea I know chp on I80 useded to not even let local homeowners go up 80 half way to get home, talk about 4 hrs on backraods in major snow to go like 40 miles! i am aware of the chains and 4x4 rule sometimes.
