Towing west to midwest. Need ideas

We are going to visit family this summer near Omaha departing from near Las Vegas, NV and decided to take the 27' TT to have a place to stay during the travels. I can pull hills with the Cummins of course, but I think a flatter route would be better if not too many miles added.



Does anyone know of a good trip planner for rv travels? I spent an hour online and haven't found much! Thanks

You can go I15/I70/I80 or I15/I80 the difference is only about 100 miles Personally depending on the time of the year and the lack of weight I would opt for the most scenic route.

As a side note

The drive thru Salt Lake SUCKS at best when traffic is heavy!!! and so is Denver!!!! but In my opinion SALT LAKE SUCKS MORE. From Spanish Fork to the other side of Salt Lake is FUBAR

Have done both of those routes and the new mexico route. Zero times towing, I think the I70 route was the flatest & easiest if I remember correctly. It's been a long time.

On I70, at Green River UT, is a three run-a-way truck ramp grade. Not only is it long, but steep, when I went through there I was with truck only and was awed at the grade. If you get snow in that pass with a trailer, you can expect a ride of your life.

The less mountain travel would be to take I-40 from Kingman, AZ to Tucumcari, NM then north on 54 to Dodge City, KS and keep going north and east from there. Its not the shortest route but stays out of the Colorado mountains.

Yeah, I think I remeber that, I don't want to be on that grade... . NM is sounding like the ticket at this point. I40 to I25 and find a highway to the I70 to avoid Denver.

When diving truck for a living I had pulled I 70 many times, and have been to Rocky Mountain National Park from So Calif a few pulling our 29ft TT with the wife loading it to AT LEAST THE MAX!!!! The grade is NOT a problem and if it is BY ALL MEANS go another route!!!!! Going thru Glenwood Canyon and Eisenhower Pass is NOT a problem with your weight of a 27ft TT. Common sense is ALL IT TAKES. I cant UNDERSTAND that people are that terrified of a hill but I guess thats life. So I guess that your route is set NO Salt Lick , NO so called big hills on I 70 (if you take I 40 watch out for the HILL out of Flag :-laf) Good luck on your trip and have a safe drive.

Salt Lick has quite possibly the worst drivers is recorded history and the ignorance is OVERWELMING to say the least. I will be heading south to Ca in a few days and will leave home to arrive at salt lake around midnite or a little after just to avoid the MEANACE DRIVERS.

If in fact you do take I 70 DONT FOR ANY REASON STOP FOR COFFEE IN GREEN RIVER UT we stopped at a restaurant to eat food NOT BAD coffee was undrinkable, went to 4 other places in GR to get a cup and drove out of town with 4 empty cups WHAT I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER that place is. :-laf

Mr Nasty, you haven't traveled on mountain grades with my wife! She can contort and end up on the passenger floor if she doesn't see a guardrail on a downhill ride. I've made this trip a few times and SLC seems like way out of the way to me.

I'm not a profesional expert like you, but I won't be getting paid by the mile and just looking for a leisurely route. We are taking 3 days each way.

I do that one pulling boat that is heavier than TT, those are bunny slopes.

I have the same topper, Mr Nasty... our trucks look almost identical. Nice country up there! My uncle had a lumber company in Missoula many years ago.

There are some steep grades between the new bridge and the Temple Bar turnoff, but those are not bad towing the boat. I used to commute to PHX to work every weekend for about two years... I got so tired of the dam traffic that I would go through Parker, AZ. Actually a fun route.

Huh? Going through Denver is 1344 miles and I-40 is 1486.
