I thought I heard a helicopter going over yesterday morning, but it was my buddy Chris in his straight-piped 03 3500 lwb (Snowball) with 309k coming over to gloat. He (finally) got around to checking his valve clearances and had to come tell me that they were all dead-on, except for number 5 exhaust, which was . 001 tight. His cell phone pictures showed a valve train, valve cover "clean enough to eat out of". Looks like that Amsoil and bypass filter is doing the job! . He has talked to TC about a new CP3 and injectors, even though it runs perfectly. So much for a Bullydog (336/666 dyno run, '08 TDR issue 59 page 101) and later a Smarty blowing up injectors! Mark

Keep in mind that the 03 and early 04 SO engines run much cleaner then 04. 5+ HO engines too, there oil is usually pretty clean

His 03 and my 04 are both HO 305/555 engines. Did California even have this version? The SO was maybe something like 235 HP? Mark

When I bought my signature truck, the NY engines were the 250 (SO) and the 305 HO which I purchased. For the 2004 model year, the only NY engine available was the 235 HP California engine with a catalyst that looked like a 12V cat.
