My records indicate that issue 70, pg 32 shows the procedure to perform a fluid change. Theer are also various threads that discuss this. I think that a search for fluid change 48Re may get you the appropriate threads.

What year is your truck and how many miles does it have? I've found that the torque spec for the pan bolts is fairly important to prevent leaks.

Changed mine last year, the pan gasket is the hard rubber molded type and is reusable, so you just need a new filter and some ATF, I just replaced what lost with the pan off. I didn't change mine till 50,000 miles. Can't remember how many quarts it took. bg

If you want to get an almost complete oil change, loosen the 10 valve body bolts and let it drain overnight. You will drain almost 12 quarts of oil. Tighten the bolts to 100 INCH pounds.

Iam unable to search past issues on my IPad. Could you walk me through changing the transmission fluid using the return line method? There are two lines . Not shure which one to disconnect. Thanks for your help. If you get up around Eagle Lake by Susanville California I will take you fishing.

i would be VERY VERY cautious doing the return line method. i was opting for that way when i changed mine, until i realized the condition of the transmission lines. mine are particularly pitted from corrosion, and i wasn't willing to run the risk of cracking a line while undoing them from the sump. i opted another way- i dropped the pan, let it drip for several hours, changed the filter, cleaned the pan, and then bolted it back up and filled it. the very next weekend, i did the exact same thing, minus the filter change. it is kinda like a "diminishing returns" way of doing it. 7 qts of dirty fluid the first time (out of about 12), and a week later, 7 more qts of the "mixed" fluid. it definitely made a difference in the color of the fluid. looked like pink lemonade after the second week.

Rear line is the one you want to disconnect and drain to a container.

Drop pan and filter to drain what you can. Replace filter, take a ball peen hammer to the bolt holes on the pan to make sure they are flat or even outdented (is that a real word :-laf:). The pan gasket should be re-usable, inspect for any damage and replace if neccessary.

Add 5 quarts fluid to transmission, start engine and idle in neutral. Watch flow out of return line and when it starts to slow, shut off engine. Do this 3 times, reinstall cooler line and fill trans to full. Usually takes around 20 quarts to exchange fluid.

Change transmission fluid .

Thank you. here I go. 2006 with 28500 miles.

I used Cerberusiams method of disconnecting the return line. Used a 3/4 inch hose to connect to the return line. I cut it to be above the 5 gallon bucket so I could see the fluid. About 18 inches long. I had purchased 20 quarts of fluid. On the third flush I used 4 quarts instead of 5. With 6 quarts left it took 5 and 1/2 quarts to bring it to the proper fill level. I wasn't to shure about this method . It turned out to a one Beer challenge. Thanks for all your advice.
