Well, you don't have a PCM unless you upgraded your engine to a 98 1/2 or newer ISB. Your ECM however... the actual replacement is not that bad, parts availability may be an issue.

Just about every thing on that truck should be mechanical. What is prompting you to replace?

Actually Dodge calls it the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). I'm assuming that it's the ECM that you are referring to. It controls many other vehicle functions not related to the engine. Engine speed, throttle position, manifold heater, are some of the engine inputs to the PCM, and there are others. One very critical function of the PCM is that it controls the transmission OD and torque converter lockup, and that is where we are having problems right now. You are right in that the 12 valve is a mechanically controlled engine. It does not need a computer to run. I sure wish my 95 didn't have any kind of "computer logic" built into it. That's a weak link IMHO.
