In the owners manual does it state any thing about bio use and the percentage that can be used? Or is it a word of mouth thing. I see that there are states that are doing 5% and 10% and some are considering going to 15%.

They used to ship the trucks from the factory with B5 or 5% BioDiesel in the tank. I remember Dodge saying that blends up to 5% are ok and blends of 20% in fleet or military use with the use of the heavy duty filteration kit. I've been running B20 or 20% in my trucks for years now with no issues. BioDiesel provides better lube than just diesel. One thing BioDiesel has a short shelf life needs to be used with in 4 to 6 months.

My 08 owner's manual stated 5% max Bio-Diesel. Although I have used up to 20% or lower in some states out west when pulling my 5er. Most stations in IL are at least 10% now due to the new tax incentives passed by our broken down state government to enhance the use of bio-fuel.

I believe that the 2013MY years will allow up to 20% bio-diesel now in the pick-up version.

Thanks for your replies. On another forum the subject came up and ever one had there own opinion. The OP said his owners manual did not state a percent that was allowed. Thats why I was inquiring. Bottom line just pack away enough fuel filters for that un-foreseen emergency.

My owner's manual clearly stated 5% biocrap. I don't want any vegetable oil in my fuel tank but my choices are limited. I suspect greater percentages could put expensive components such as the dpf and perhaps even the injection pump and injectors at risk.

The use of BioDiesel actually lowers the light off temp of the DPF. The concern is that until only a few years ago there wasn't a national standard for fuel quality so to play it safe they kept the recommended blend levels low. There now is a national standard that BioDiesel must meet. The fuel today is safe and clean to use. That said follow what your manual says and life will be good for ya.....

"I suspect" and "I don't actually know--just guessing" are synonymous.
