Transfer Cases NP271 NP273?

Any one know what the difference between a NP271D and a NP273D transfer case and are they interchangeable?

The NP273D is out of a 2004 Cummins with automatic

The NP271D is out of a 2005 Cummins with automatic

271 mech shifter 273 electronic. Not interchangeable

The 273 had a mechanical shifter in the (early model) 2004 truck, someone stole the shifter mechanism and front drive shaft. I just bought a 271 from a 2005 w/36k miles with front drive shaft for $450 hoping it will fit.

If it had a mechanical shifter it was a 271, the 273 is an electric shift version.

They will fit but not shift going with an electric shift into a mech shift truck

Ok, So the 271 WILL fit and work in my OEM mechanical shift transfer case truck right? So where did the 273 that is now in the truck come from? it NEVER had electronic shift? Also what is a 273 transfer case worth?
