got my 1st check engine light on my 2009 ram 3500 duallie 4x4 , i guessing it is the exhast filter,i do mostly use it as a work commuter. Is there a way i can find out what the CEL means or if there is a code # attached to it? thanks

key off - key on, 3 times without starting, leave it on the last time. You have to cycle the key quickly for it to work. Codes will appear in the odometer window, be careful to distinguish between numbers such as "6" and letters such as "b". It will cycle thru the codes if there are multiple codes and then end with "donE". If it just says "donE", then there were no codes.

Considered part of regular maintenance, won't be a warranty issue. If not done, you may not have any warranty if it causes a failure.

Should fall under the 5/100 warranty, but as a future tool, you can buy a code reader. I chose to purchase a "Kiwi wifi" and purchased the Dashcommand app for my iPhone, (BTW, you must buy an app for it to work) total cost was around the same price as a cheap code reader, but has a lot more capabilities than a cheap code reader, and I use it all the time. I bought it because my C&C threw a code and it cost me $75. 00 to find out it was a low voltage message. I later learned it was my right side battery that was weak. Here's a link if your interested.

BTW, you can clear codes as well.

Gregg,

Just want to throw this out there. Seeing as you live in Newfoundland there is a good chance that you have or will be jumping on a ferry at some point.

Everytime that I take the '06 on a ferry (and I do several times each summer in New Brunswick and Maine) I get the check engine light after driving back onto dry land. The Edge will read the code and it is always in regards to the barometric pressure. It will take several hours before it settles back down and the light will stay off after clearing the code.

Maybe it knows that it can't swim and panics as a result??????

Mike.
