Well I am kinda un-impressed. The ride was better than my 07. 5 although I do have heavier suspension and 19. 5" tires. My transmission and engine feel much stronger. It is a very well built truck but not yet for me. I have spent way to much loot on my and it is paid for. There are many good things about this truck. I am waiting on free running front hubs and an 8 speed transmission. :-laf Please don't beat me up.

They do have a front axle disconnect.

Did it have 4. 10's like yours? If it had 3. 73 or 3. 42 gears that might be the difference in power felt. 8 spd transmission... . maybe you better start saving, I think it's on the horizon:D The '14 Jeep Cherokee is getting an in house 9 spd with help from ZF.

It had 4. 10s. Don't get me wrong it was a fine truck. I do have issues with the 14k gvw and still having 17" tires. My wife & I have driven our dually cross country twice. One with 17" stocks tires and once with the upgrade to 12 ply 19. 5x245s. There is no doubt the factory tires ride better but there is a world of difference in the stability of the 19. 5s. While towing heavy, when a semi passes you there is absolutely no walking a bid to the side of the interstate. Even when you get into the ruts of the road there is no walking. I have read comments about "I" have no problem with my factory tires. It's like the saying "If you have gone black you don't go back". Driving with 19. 5s is a large step forward. Personally I don't like 225x19. 5s. They are a little rough. 245s & 265s are a dream. With 14k you are at the limit of 17" tires. If they made a 12 or 14 ply 17" it may be a different story.

It's hard to compare the power feeling of a Smarty tuned truck vs a stock tuned truck. The stock tuning has so many limiters that it will take a trailer to fully develop the power, and driving empty just won't get you all of it.

The 17" vs 19. 5" is simple, the 17's support the 14K GCWR and all the axle ratings with a cheaper and better riding tire. I will say I am surprised the 3500 C&C doesn't use 19. 5's thou, but it's rated for less weight than the pickup is.

I would really like to see some 19. 5's in a SRW setup with a better offset, it looks like chains will be hard to fit with the offset and 245's.

I agree with your statement about the ride, but cheaper? They are using 18's and 20's now, they are not cheap. I am not sure why they are developing pickup tires in that size when 19. 5's have been around for years and is a better tire.

The 2500s on the lot yesterday were 17"

The DRW's are all 17" from what I have seen. I still think 19. 5's are more expensive, at least in the little searching and pricing I have been doing. They last longer, so the cost per might be less thou.

SRW's have a 17, 18, and 20" option. To get the increased RAWR they cannot run the 17's thou.

There is plenty of capacity left on the 17" tires. My scale wt is 5,180 front and 8,780 rear 13,940 combined. Tires are no where near maxed out!

I tow combined 28K and never feel the semi's passing me. I have to look at the trees to see if the wind is blowing, even in really windy conditions it is rock solid.

We are not talking about a 2011 we are talking about a 2013 with 14kgvw.

My dealer sales manager says this is not yet available.

The 2013 press releases make it sound standard on all 3500's.

Not sure those 60lbs are going to make or break it... It's a pretty fair comparison, and the 2013 should be stiffer with the new frame.

235/80/17's provide enough rating for 18,510 lbs (6,170/12,340).

What is this 60#s referring to?

No less of a margin than the SRW rear axle has operated under for the last 10+ years. Why is it different now?

This time of year I am loaded at ~95% of my tire rating on the rear tires every week or two and it really doesn't handle any different with proper inflation. Now when I was 1,000lbs over the rating of the tires for a few miles last year you could feel it!

Please answer my question what is the gvw of a 2011 drw? The difference now is that 10 ply 17"s 8-9 years ago were rated the same as they are now but we have raised the wheel capacities 400+#s and gvws are streaching the very top limit of the tires. We might be asking for troubles.
