My new shop

manual tire machine question

Is that exclusively at Sears?

Just explored the "Learn more" section, part numbering system follows the same format as the power tools. My guess would be that any current DeWalt retailer will have them such as Sears, Lowes, Home Depot and local dealers as well.

We'll see, the "Lifetime Guarantee" caught my eye... .

Mike.

They will probably do the same beancounter BS that all the other lifetime warranty items from other companies do . "must have sales receipt"

That makes sense. I'm surprised Sears is even moving in a big name like Dewalt to compete with the Craftsman line especially with the sub par quality Craftsman has been putting out the last several years.

If theres 2 of the same tool on the shelf and one is a Craftsman and the other is a Dewalt, I know what I'm grabbing

I don't know about the hand tools but Dewalt power tools are NOT that good anymore, cheap plastic cracks and isn't up to jobsite work but ok I guess for playing in the garage.

Black and Decker has always been the power tool for the home enthusiast at best use it once and toss in the trash, Dewalt is following that path also.

We use and abuse their 6" and 9" grinders at work. On bigger jobs like a patch job or an over lay on a reactor we will burn rod for 12 to 16 hours a day. We have to back gouge all our root passes so the grinders get one hell of a work out. They get so hot you can't hardly pick it up without a glove on. The Dewalt's we have will out last the $325 Metabos and Milwaukee's almost 2 to one and at a fraction of the cost.

That's funny I have found that my Milwaukee tools hold out better than the Dewalt??? I have gone to Makita tools and have found them to be something that I would buy again. I guess it might have to do with their use. Im sure D4L your guys use them a lot more than I do.

I do a ton of woodwork and I use a lot of power tools. I have had every brand, except Black and Decker and Ryobi, which I consider weekender tools. The three power tools I like the best are Makita, Milwaukee and Porter Cable. Makita 18v drills and drivers are about the best, I like Milwaukee for sawsalls and corded heavy duty drills and Porter Cable for routers and sanders. I do have some DeWaklt tools, like my excellent 13" planner.

For my large power tools, such as table saw, drill press, band saw, belt sander and lathe I have Dalta.

Mike,

I didn't see any info about where the DeWalt hand tools are made. I wonder where in China they're actually made?

I was thinking that black and decker bought the Dewalt name / brand at least 5 yrs ago, if not longer. My older Dewalt 14. 4 volt drill still is tight and great except normal brush wear / replacement My 6 yr old 18 volt Dewalt drill was junk in less than a year.

I can't find the country of origin either, probably made just down the river from the Three Gorges Dam... ... by displaced peasants that used to live just up the river... ... . :D

Mike.

Dewalt began its existence making radial arm saws in the 30's or 40's. For over 50 years everything was made in Canada and The US. But in true American fashion they eventually began outsourcing their stuff to Mexico and eventually China. *

Bear in mind that there are two streams of DeWalt power tools, one for Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and the other that is sold through MSC, Grainger, and local distributors such as our NH Bragg in Maine. There are differences in the quality and internal parts.

Same thing that John Deere is doing with riding mowers.

All of my DeWalt power tools have been purchased through either MSC or my local dealer. All have been nothing short of indestructable. My latest purchase includes an 18v circular saw that is amazing.

I learned that there are cordless "Trim saws" and cordless "Circular saws". Huge difference. Don't cheap out, always buy the "Circular saw" and you will be much happier.
