Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 270,000 miles

I am new to the dodge cummins scene. anyway, i am going to look a 95 2500 in a little while that has 270,000 miles on it. the only problem the guy said it has is a broken 4x4 shift linkage which is nothing. he only want's 2600 for the truck. can you guys just give me a heads up on what to look for? any common problems with a truck with this mileage. i just want to know what i am getting myself into here. thanks in advanve

Quite a few things but all fixalbe. KDP if not already taken care of, Alternators,starters,a/c, track bar,front end components (death wobble), lift pump, overflow valve, rubber fuel lines.

But for 2600 you will have plenty of money to take care of all those problems.



Check for rust! Check to see if it was in a accident!

it's a california car so i doubt there is rust. what does kdp mean? is that the dowel pin?

See if you can't find out the maintanence history of that trans from the owner. That may be the one $$$$ item to fail at that mileage if it hasn't had some good preventative maintanence done.

For that price you will be able to repair lots of neglected items and still be in good shape purchase wise. I say go for it.

Yes, it's the dowel pin.

As stated, you'll be looking at regular wear items. I wouldn't worry about the engine unless it's been abused. I'd check the oil, make sure it's just oil with no coolant. I'd remove the air filter tube from the turbo and see if it looks dirty and make sure it has no excessive shaft play. Check the transmission fluid for color and smell. I would go ahead and count on a transmission rebuild or replacement.
