I filled my tank two weeks ago(3 tanks of fuel) and its stuck on full. Its not full. Anybody had this problem, or am I a lucky one once again????? LOL Off to the dealer saturday for this repair... .

I filled mine when I first bought it mid-April... I just got to 3500 miles and its just finally moving to just under the full mark. I've read that you'll use about a gallon every 1000 miles. The tank is 8 gallons. So you have a ways to go before it starts to move.

It seemed to move a noticeable amount with 500 miles etc of travel. I added a gallon this Saturday and the gauge never moved nor did the tank fill up. It took the gallon and never gurgled like it was filling up. .

I'll give it another 500-700 miles and see if it moves. . I wonder what would happen if the gauge was bad, showed full and the tank was empty? Would the truck throw a code for no DEF or go into limp mode cause the emissions are not working right?

The gauge swing may not be calibrated exactly right. I had mine at the dealership a week and a half ago and they said they were awaiting a flash from star to correct some emission problems including the gauge. I have driven almost 4000 miles since new and the gauge is showing about 7/8 full. According to how much I should have used approximately 4 gallons it should be at the half mark.

per the 2013 Diesel Supplement, the DEF tank is only 5. 5 gallons on the 2500/3500 HD's... the Chassis Cab's have a 9 gallon tank. I do believe some of the early press literature mentioned the HD's having an 8 gallon tank.

The gauge isn't linear from what people are reporting in other places... I would say that if you've driven 4000 miles and the gauge is showing 7/8 full then the gauge isn't working properly.

The 2013 Diesel Supplement says that you will get your first DEF warning when you have 350miles of DEF left. No idea how it's calculating this value though.

in the heavy duty world, we are having issues with the def crystallizing on the float and rod it slides on. . we just pull the float / rod assy and clean it off and put it back in the tank. If it sticks in the empty zone, you'll end up getting derated big time, even if you fill it up. so keep them full. . and they tend not to stick.

I have a 2013 2500 I just bought it I put over 9000 miles on it looks like all the emissions are hooked up the def gauge does not work just tried adding more def but it won't take it I do know Dodge recalled the catalytic back they said once they replaced that exhaust will have to reprogram it don't know if it'll fix my def gauge or if the whole def system will have to be cleaned out

They don't use a float type fuel level sensor, it's a "linear" type sensor. The gauge will not come off "Full" until the tank level falls about 40%. In other words with 60% left in the tank, the guage will start measureing from that point down to "E". It's normal, they are just built that way.

I had seen the video above before and it was enlightening. When I fill mine up it does take a while to get it to move. Earlier this summer I was towing and I ran low on def the warning came on and started the mileage countdown it got down to 120 miles left to limp mode. When I got home I bought two 2.5 gallon jugs. The first one no problem the second one went about 3/4's or so. Perhaps half a gallon left in the container before it started spilling out so I would say the 5.5 gallons is right. I know when I bought my truck I drove over 1000 miles to get home and when I got home it was still on full. Which is when I started doing a bit of checking and ran across the video that ram4sam posted. More shenanigans by the manufacturer to make you think it hardly uses any at all, along the same lines as the fuel tanks running a long ways on the top half of the tank. I know on my 01 I could go 125ish miles before the fuel gauge would get below full. The 17 is somewhat better in that respect. Though just this morning I was on E and showed 46 miles to go. I filled up with 27 gallons still had 5 gallons left that is about the same as my 01. On the def I just let it run down to 1/4 tank or so then put in one 2.5 gal container. Which takes it up to just about 3/4's of a tank or so.
