Hello Folks, I'm a new member and first posting, and I'm sorry to bring up an issue that has had so much dialog already. I've read web postings until I'm a bit cross eyed, searching for a solution that works for what seems somewhat of a common problem, no tach, no AC, no OD, etc.
I bought an old (352,000 mile) 95 Ram 2500 with a 47 RH trans from it's original owner last fall. The truck had multiple small mechanical issues that I've addressed and the truck has now passed VA inspection and is road worthy. The previous owner described a problem with the tach and OD shift in/out, or no OD shift. When I drove the truck home, the problem was evident. This seems to be a common issue with many RAMS, with several possible solutions.
The owner told me that it only occurred during the hot summer months. Initially I suspected the TPS and I replaced it with a "DNR Customs" variable resister. During the winter months the truck ran flawlessly. Started easily below 20 degrees, shifted into OD at 40 mph, all functions seemed to be correct.
But now the weather has warmed and the ambient temperature has risen, with days reaching into the mid 80's and more. The demon has returned, with no tach, no AC, low voltage, no OD, etc. After a lot of reading, last week I ordered a new crank sensor and intake temp sensor from Geno's. Today I installed them. The truck started and ran normal. Around noon time I drove the 20 or so miles into town. The truck performed perfectly until I stopped for some business. When restarting, there was no tach, no AC, no OD etc.
So in your opinion, where do I go from here? The gremlin seems to be ambient temp related. Can you give me a direction to travel? The only code showing is 12. There is discussion about the battery temp sensor possibly causing the issue, but multiple other possibilities.
The truck performs perfectly on cool mornings only to go nuts in the afternoon. It returns to normal when the ambient temp cools down.
Thanks much
