I heard from a few people who went to NYC to do clean up from Sandy when the storm breached the city and flooded the sewers it pushed all the rodents up into the streets. I'm not talking just a few thousand either... .:eek:

Never lived in LA when in Calif. I cant see it being much different than NYC but we don't have them around us here. I don't know if its the cold or the critters that keep them away but they give me the Heee beeee Geeeee Beeeee's

Welllll, It HAS been said... ahhh- Nevermind.

Most rat stories about NYC are true. I can say that one of the only reason you'll see a Ford Ranger P/U in Manhattan is because it says "WESTERN PEST CONTROL". I used to cut across downtown @ 5AM daily, and there would be one parked on the corner of Broadway and Barclay (The Woolworth Building) EVERY DAY.

Now Cockroaches are another story... .

Another thought about Sandy and Manhattan. The Wall St area still hasn't recovered. There are 53' gensets howling away at a LOT of curbs still. Not good.

Bug's are NOT going to happen at our place wife goes nuts!!!! the only pest's we have occur from Mid May to Aug. We call them TOURIST'S :D

I've been wondering how the folks on the coast have been coping. I would imagine they probably jumped on the high tourist areas first? My wife has family within an hour of the Jersey Shore line and the WildWood area and they were starting the rebuild process within days of the storm blowing through

53' gen sets  Wonder whose paying that fuel bill!!

Do they not have pick ups in the city Wayne?

Not sure if your familiar with WildWood in NJ but when we were there last summer everybody looked at my truck like I was from another planet  Finding a parking spot was almost amusing. We had a condo on the beach and the last day we were there I pulled my truck up to the door to load our stuff in. At that time a lady was walking by and she looked dumbfounded at the sound of the ol 24 valve rattling away... :-laf. She looked at me and said "who wants to drive a smart car anyway". I laughed and pointed at my ranch hand bumper and replied "yep, that's why I've got that on the front end, to clear em out of the way" She didn't see the humor in that at all and I soon found out why... . she walked another 30 Feet and got in her little Prius and sped off :-laf:-laf

Well, when I said I was cuttin across town everyday, it was in my '04 :-laf and I had the luxury of rooftop parking where my topper just SKIMMED the fire plumbing. Back when I had my 'ol '92, I was the scourge of the hood and in fact one guy was so pi$$ed he'd run and drag his garbage cans to the curb as I fired off and drove by LOL!
Honestly, pick em ups are more common where I live- mostly posers- I think I'm the only nut with a handshaker in town. There is at least 2 other Geno's customers, cause they look you up by zip code, and I was surprised at that. I'm a bit taken back at the Wildwood story as that would be more likely to happen in trendy Cape May NJ.

On my trip to Tennessee recently, I saw a couple of these stickers on pick ups, so I inquired and got the story. There's now one on mine too. Just for the tree huggers around here!

Hey if it has to be rebuilt then why not update equipment!!!

Welcome to the quagmire that is NYC politics. The gensets prolly belong to a Bloomy buddy and he gets his piece on all the fuel contracts. The plant is probably stalled in some bid revision. I've a friend at ConEd, I should ask...

The jersey shore is doing quite well. See my remark about NYC politics above. I've been to 2 of my fav beaches this summer, and it's nearly as if nothing has happened. Don't forget- Wildwood, Seaside, Ocean City, Point Pleasant et al, the boardwalks etc are the lifeblood of the areas. I think Gov. Christie had no choice but to play balls with Obummer.

You have to remember Wayne I am a back woods country boy and places like Wild Wood boggle me! And leaves me with the deer in the head lights look  I wouldn't last 10 minutes on my own in a real city.

I don't get out of my little corner very often and when I do it's usually to another place off the map somewhere... . in the middle of nowhere... . :D

Actually Wildwood isn't nowhere. Def on the map. I remember my first time there years ago- blown away by the amount of Canadan plates seen.

My trip down 81, and then spending time with BIL in York, Pa has us primed to get outta here when I can retire in less than 4 years. Were thinking central pa mountains and learning from the Amish for survival tactics. LOL. I still can't believe I walked into Dick's and got some 00 shells like I were buying band aids!

I thought you were talking about Trash Pickups D4L in the link BAGS upon BAGS of trash how long does that sit around?

Really getting off topic now but I watched a documentary years ago on NYC sanitation workers and boy oh boy do them boys get a work out!! Talk about a bunch of apes swingin garbage cans :-laf:-laf I wouldn't wanna mess with any of em, they all looked like they were about to bust out of their shirts. Around here, they make a stop for trash then they might have a few miles drive to the next pick up. Not so in the big apple. And I seem to remember the one guy saying with overtime he makes 100k a year  Does that sound right, Wayne? Seems like he was working a good amount of OT but you would still have to have a good base pay to be in thE six figure range. Even at $30 an hour your still over 700 hrs OT.

Around here, I can walk into the grocery store and buy a whole shelf's worth of Tannerite no questions asked :D
Check out you tube for some informative videos if you haven't heard of it. It's what we do for entertainment ;)

PA has some pretty country. For that matter, so does NY. Chautauqua Lake in NY is just over an hour from me and is beautiful country.
