Has anyone with a 2013 without the 5th wheel prep installed a reese hitch?I don't want to use the mopar picture frame 5th wheel mounting bracket. Does reese have mounting brackets so I can use the reese rails. Does the 5th wheel prep have extra steel under the bed to mount the rails to?

I bought a kit for a 2012 Ram from etrailer. It was a rail kit because I have a 20k Reese and didn't want to part with it. Everything fit perfectly and matched the directions almost to a tee..... with the exception of the driver's side rearmost frame mount. It will fit, but I had to modify the bracket with a grinder to clearance around a frame redesign for the13'. All I had to do differently was remove the shock on that side to obtain access and grind off a little material on the frame bracket itself so that it would bolt flat to the frame. Very easy to do!!!!! Do not be intimidated, anybody can do this! Do a search on here of the thread I started when I had the same problem as you..... cannot find a manufacturer for the 13' rail kit. Joe Donnelly helped a lot with his accurate depiction of the actual differences between the 12 and13 frames. Your post isn't clear and sig is not updated but this post is only accurate if you have a 2500 13' model and NOT a 3500 model. The 2500 13' are almost identical to 12'..... Hope this helps!

Aclayton,I didn't buy the truck yet. I'm going to get a 2014 3500SRW. I'm reading about people having trouble getting their hitch installed. I'm just trying to get all my ducks in a row before I pull the trigger. Thank you for the reply.

My understanding is that if you have the prep kit, you need the adapter to make the 5th wheel hitch work. I have a good Pullrite, and will find out tuesday, when the adapter comes in, if it drops right in.

You can get the B&W gooseneck www.turnoverball.com and their Companion fifth wheel hitch that plugs into the gooseneck hole. It requires no other stuff on the truck and does not use the four pockets in the frame. It does not require the prep package option since their gooseneck hitch just bolts to the bottom of the factory crossmember. The overall cost is very competitive and you get two hitch types at once.

And in my opinion the best quality US Made hitch on the market. Very positive latching mechanism with 1 1/8" thick jaws.

My sons 3500 4x4 DRW was outfitted with a Curtis slider and 20K 5th wheel and standard rail kit. IT did not have the factory adapter kit.

The installer said it was the first NEW Ram he had done and there were no issues.
