I have a 2000 5. 9 cummins and I was just wondering what is the normal max boost pressure for a stock turbo because sometimes iam getting it up to 29 psi and some one told me that is to high

Which engine do you have, standard or HO?

My HO will make about 19lbs.

You may have a programmer on it and not know. Maybe take a look to see if someone has put something on the wastegate to keep it closed. without extra fuel I doubt that it would make 29lbs of boost.

One last thing, is your guage correct?

I do have a programmer and a raptor lift pump and upgraded banjo bolts and an upgraded transmission but that's all and I don't have a HO and the boost sensor is brand new and it goes right to my edge juice with attitude

Mine goes to 16 psi. I think up to 20 is normal. Your waste gate could be stuck or wired shut or a J-hook or boost elbow attached (depending on the turbo). 29 is a little high (it's outside the recommended range for a stock turbo) and you probably have high exhaust temperatures too.

ON MY 01 i was only getting 19. then i put a boost elbow and fooler on, now i have it set for 26. It will make 29 but it sounds better and runs better at 26. without the fooler i would set overboost and derate engine at about 22-23. with elbow and fooler EGT are about 75 lower. I like

thanks for all the advice ive just recently became a cummins owner and my goal is 600 hp so might be on here with more questions thanks for all the help once again guys

You'll get to 400hp pretty easily, but the last 200 are going to be expensive. Twins, head work, another set of injectors, maybe a hybrid VP44.
