In the last TDR issue #81, page 85, Joe Donnelly indicated that "the larger 8" touch screen would allow gauges etc. to be displayed"

I've been trying to find out more about those gauges and have struck out. I do see that EVIC can display some 'gauge' type info.

Was that what he was talking about?

I looked at a 2014 yesterday with all the bells and whistles and the 8. 4 and could not find any customization of the screen for gauges... .

I'm starting the hunt for a 2014 2500 4x4 and gauges are important. On my 2002 I have the BD X-Monitor with fuel pressure, turbo and boost. Sure would like the 2014 to display at least those last two.

Didnt see the article but must have been misread or miswrote. There are no gauges on the entertainment display in the center of the truck. It displays radio, nav, and hvac. The evic near the speedometer will display various gauges.

Maybe you can find a product like I found for your Nav screen. Here are a couple of pics of my Lockpick and PLX iMFD setup on my 07 C&C.

RVTRKN,
Please comment (details) on the type of radio you have and the gauge system you have, it looks very interesting.
What parameters will it display?
Is it easy to use?
Easy to read?
Cost?
What factory radio did you install?

I pieced together info I got before I had the chance to inspect a 2013 myself. The gauges are displayed in the 7" cluster, not the Uconnect, it turns out. They are accessed by the arrow buttons on the left side of the steering wheel. I display boost and voltage on the left side, and one of the screens has a numerical list of water temp, oil temp, trans temp, oil pressure.

OK, thanks,Joe. That's what I thought.

So the next question is what displays (gauges) are missing. . eg pyro? and then what other alternatives are there available like RVTRKN posted above.

In other words, Joe: What other gauge info would you like to see that is not available on the EVIC?

And for anyone, what are other third party gauge/indicators stuff available?

As told the Ram engineers, I want egt (pyrometer). They asked "why" suspiciously, and asked if I wanted to modify the engine. I said, no, I want to know when it is better to back out a bit and when it is safe to shut down. They already monitor egt; there is a probe in the exhaust manifold. I can display everything else I want.

That is my stock REC NAV radio in my 07 C&C, and I installed a device called "Lockpick" to be able to listen to my iPhone. It also has video input so I can also watch movies or music videos, and I installed a backup camera so I can see my fifth hitch when backing up to the pin. I also bought a PLX Kiwi wifi to read and reset trouble codes and bought the Dashcommand app. I had someone develop a skin that reads PLX iMFD modules that I installed. It is a long story, but you can PM me if you want to know more. I have Boost, EGT, Oil Pressure, and Oil temperature gauges for the trans, rear diff and transfer case. Here are a couple of links that might help. http://www.coastaletech.com http://www.plxdevices.com http://www.dashxl.net/dashboard.php?dashboard=557

OK, final (maybe... ) three questions for Joe and the group: [BTW I'm looking at getting a 2014 SLT]

1. Any justification to upgrade to the 8. 4 Uconnect (other than the very nice display RVTRKN has)?

2. Any add-on sensors (gauges) you would add that are NOT available on the EVIC?

3. From Joe's answer, EGT is monitored... and am I correct in assuming that the EVIC can display it?

1. the 8. 4 has more features and is required to get Park View camera which is very nice.
2. EGT is not available on the evic or the 7" cluster readouts. In 2013 to get the 7" cluster, you had to order the luxury group with heated seats and steering wheel, if a Big Horn or SLT.
3. Nope, and I have heard the Edge Insight won't work to do it either--I haven't bought one to try it. I know the 2013 engine controller has different software and Smarty hasn't cracked it, I was told.

BTW, if you get a Tradesman, the parkview displays in the rear view mirror and 8. 4 is not available in that model. The 5" Uconnect option on Tradesman Rams includes the overhead console with map lights. This is 2013 model info so check whether there have been changes for 2014.
