Need opinions on what tailgate lock to purchase. I've had a Pop-N-Lock on the truck for a good ten years now, but it's just worn out (the cylinder and the mounting bracket) and time to replace it. I noticed that Geno's now carries a lock made by Bully, and it's about 1/2 the price of a new Pop-N-Lock.

Any experience with one vs. the other? Are they of comparable quality? And does the Bully install using the factory holes (like the Pop-N-Lock did) or does it require drilling or other sheet metal modifications?

You don't have your signature showing what year your truck is. On my '01 truck I put an electronic one in that was tied into the electric door locks. On my '11 I put a Mopar optional electric lock that was similar and again is tied into the door locks.

Not sure why it doesn't show up, as I'd filled the signature out years ago. But it's an '01.

I would not be interested in one that was tied-in to the door locks. Why would I want to have to open the doors and flip the switch just to open the tailgate? Or are you referring to one of those fancy key-fob things?

I have a pop lock and have had no problems to date. I was a little Leary at first of it freezing up in the winter especially because iI try to hit a car wash once or twice a week to knock the salt off but it has not froze yet. Its been a few years now but I don't remember them being very expensive to begin with. What are they selling for now?

I installed the Bully Lock from Geno's with no issue on my 08. Removed the access panel in the tailgate and replaced the factory tailgate opener with the Bully lockable unit and it fit right up with no modifications. I have had the unit now for three years still works great.

The electric ones work with either the switch on the door or with the keyfob that you use to unlock the doors.

Well, since my truck does not have any key fob, that would require me to walk back-and-forth to the driver's door to unlock the tailgate. Makes no sense. Think I'll just stick with the manual key-locked version.

That's the information that I was looking for; thanks.
