Elf On The Shelf....

All I can say is thank God for Al Gore. Can you imagine how cold it would be if it weren't for global warming ? :-laf

In all fairness this is kind of early to be having this happen, but cant wait till Mid Jan to see what happens when it REALLY gets cold :-laf

-24 and windy a couple nights ago near Savageton, WY where I was working (outside most of the time) and a balmy -5 for a high today here in Glenrock, WY. I'd like it if you'd send a shot of whatever will keep my toes warm this way!!!

Been running one of these for the last couple of winters... I can stick my hands inside the fire box to warm my fingers, but my toes are the the problem... It seems that my feet sweat more when cold and stay wet and cold all night! #@$%!

Edit: pic was taken last year before the snow hit...

Mikey,

What does that rig?

I get a kick out of So Cal Broadcasts with the WINTER STORM WATCH, are you kidding me. :-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf
Wow its 35* as I type this, I better go check my wood stove and the wood pile. :-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf:-laf

It's called a super heater and is used to heat water for fracs. The one in the pic typically burns through 1,200-1,400 gallons of propane in a 12hr shift.

Water circulates through the large pipes you see and the smaller ones are full of liquid propane!

If your not changing your socks every couple of hours, or are wearing real thick socks and never changing them, then your toes and your feet are going to be cold. The sweat will freeze, then your socks become a miniature ice pack.

The propane gets heated as well so it will flash from a pressurized liquid to a gas. It builds and maintains more consistent heat this way. Water is circulated through the 4" pipes at a rate as high as 2,100gpm and up to 40* hotter than it was when it entered the firebox.

It can be a real bugger to light sometimes and tends to flash out of the side doors when cold. Thankfully, I still have both of my eyebrows! :-laf:-laf

PS: Sorry for totally hijacking your thread BIG!!

I don't believe in that Carp Pard, its here to start and carry a discussion, carry on!!!

Let me send you a link that, WILL END THE COLD FEET BS!!!!! If you get a pair of these and CAN HONESTLY SAY THAT YOUR FEET ARE COLD!!!! I will pay for them. When I go hunting in the snow I put these on and have no problems ALL DAY LONG. They last like no other pack that I have had and I have had a lot of them. The nice thing about these is that they can be resoled, I have had a pair for maybe 10 years and didn't really wear them all the time like I have for the last 4 years in winter and they STILL LOOK LIKE NEW!!! Just wash the crap and mud off with water and clean as a whistle and feet are still dry.

Something else I use alot is shoe chains, I hate to bust my A** so these are the thing.

Yaktrax® Walker Snow & Ice traction device

this is the model that I use easy on and off, stores get a little upset when you tear up their floors AND THESE WILL DO IT!!!!

Mikey,
Its also probably due to the refrigeration effect if the propane boils off to a gas for high volume use. If you keep the liquid at a high temperature and inject it as a liquid it will definitely give you higher BTU as well as preventing the refrigeration effect that will cause the tank pressures to drop. I would imagine a thorough daily inspection would be necessary due to the danger of an explosion.

I wear a thin pair of socks to wix away the moisture into a thick wool sock and then the boot liner, a guy would have to sweat a lot to make them wet, Im working most of the day and I don't have to change socks.

Mikey,

For the record, here's the missing DO

Thanks for the info, its a case of another what'd your day job kinda story, didn't see that coming.

BIG,

Nice snow pic's.

Hey guys, what say we take up a collection to get Penny a months supply of footy PJ's, OK?

It was pretty rough here today, wet, kinda breezy mid 40's. Still got my snow shovel from Ohio days, now does shop dust pan duty mostly.

One of the hands on a frac in my part of the working world (Bakken Play, North Dakota) said the heater they were using burned 5 gallons of diesel a minute. Takes lots of heat and fuel when it's 25 below to warm truck loads of water.

Speaking of weather, I have to run to Columbus and back this afternoon. How are things out the Ohio way today?

Columbus is about 3 And a half hours south of us. They're generally a lot warmer down there and rarely get much for snow. Should be just fine.

I ran out there and back yesterday afternoon with no issue. Roads were dry west of Wheeling.

BIG, thanks for the link to Schnees. I have tooled at their boots in the past and would love to try them. They will work for what I do most of the time, but will surely get ruined on a frac just like my Redwings did on this last job. They ended up getting soaked in a puddle of calcium chloride (the same crap that eats cars in the rust belt) and when they dried out, they shrank about 3 sizes and the toes curled up #@$%!

RVTRKN, We run a propane pump (same type of pump used to fill tanks for an RV or BBQ grill) to keep the liquid pressure at 150psi. It keeps the fire hot when the tank pressure drops.

moparguy, I just hauled water to a site last night and seen one that was burning used motor oil.

You could probably hear crickets in that town after their loss to Michigan Saturday :-laf

Either that or they were all at that Easton Town Center shopping place. I swear, everyone in the state was at that place. I had to pick something up there and it was insane to say the least. The only thing I hate about these trucks is trying to park one in a packed parking garage....

I went someplace last night and wasn't around to help the wife remove snow this AM, she said it was so dry and fluffy that she could have used a leaf blower to remove it.
It was - 21* when I got up at 1AM to fire off the International to get in warmed up and let it breath before I took off. :D

DAMN I LOVE THE CHALLENGE OF THIS PLACE!!!!! Oo.
