Back in December my water pump failed and started leaking out of the weap hole, I replaced it with a new one from Geno's witch worked fine till meet this week when it failed, Geno's is replacing it under warranty. But what I want to know is, do I just have bad luck and get a bad one or is there some thing that could be knocking them out? The antifreeze is about 2.5 years olds and is Peak Gold lift time the whole engine was rebuilt 2.5 years ago and the block and head were both cooked out and cleaned.

Ive read tons of articles on the subject of water pumps and every one says if you don't want issues use OEM Cummins with a Cummins thermostat . I also recomend a treatment of water soluable oil added to the radaitor once a year about a 1/2 cup to a cup it keep the electrolisis down and the rust and lubricates the pump I have only changed my antifreeze once when i had a hose go bad
and by radaitor inside looks new !! My dad was a 30 year radaitor man !!!!

Just bad luck that you got a bad one. They are not all perfect out of the box.

That's the truth, it can happen with any pump. If the ceramic seal is not installed properly when built they will not last long.

Mike.

I had a new pump out of the box leak. It was a new one not a rebuilt. Bad ones do happen. When I got to looking at it, it appeared that it had been dropped and the impeller was bent which probably messed up the seal. If you didn't turn it you wouldn't notice it being bent.

Thats what happens with cheap labor . But then yet the shipping companys like UPS and FEDEX etc toss crap alot as well .

The Gates WP's are notorious for not being the greatest. Its not that you got a bad one, its that a lot of them don't last. Get a new one from Cummins for best results and make sure it doesn't look like a gorilla used it for hand ball. Cummins also has a reman line if you want a cheaper soultion but for $50, just go with new.

I installed the replacement pump from Geno's yesterday so ill give it another go and hope for the best, thank you for your input guys.

What "water soluable oil" do you use?

… I also recomend a treatment of water soluable oil added to the radaitor once a year about a 1/2 cup to a cup it keep the electrolisis down and the rust and lubricates the pump I have only changed my antifreeze once when i had a hose go bad

Will any kind of "water soluable oil" work, or do you know of a superior brand/type to use? Thanks in advance.

The stuff I use is from Napa , its water soluable cutting oil , it must be water soluable , not just plain cutting oil as it wont disapate in water , this is the same stuff that is used in machine shops on cutting equipment , the stuff i buy is in a gallon jug , its not cheap but will last you a long time the oly rig that ive had a slight issue was the vw jetta only because i didnt have it mixed very well as it clinged to the sending unit inthe bottel but after i added a dab of water it disapated , if you cant find it ill get the part number off my jug
