dlmetzger, Thanks for posting that information, it looks like a very nice engine! I'm guessing it's an inline-4, I didn't see it mentioned. I did notice what looks like top-mounted filters, a feature I appreciated in an Excursion I briefly owned. Sounds trivial, but so much easier than in my 5. 9's.

I think small diesels are long overdue in America, nice to see them closer to availability.

They must have a reason for them, but I can't seem to wrap my mind around the backwards step when the grid heater has worked so well for decades.

I guess the vee configuration makes the manifold too long for the grids to be effective, perhaps? There has to be a reason why every vee engine I can think of has glow plugs... .

All the newer V8's have glow and don't the German stuff too? They're all direct injection. I just drive my GMC 6. 5 work rig. No way would they go back to that!!

My 1st Dodge was purchased for the Cummins, that is why I bought the truck. Went from a 97 Ford F350, 460 gas for more suspension and pulling power/economy. From Y2K to 2003 I followed up buying with 3 more Dodge trucks. I will never step a foot back in a Dodge dealer again especially due to the fact that they lost a real truck name (Dodge), and now with the imported sewing machine fiat "Ram diesel" and all the fluid and dpf crap going on it's not a truck anymore in my book. Might have to look at the new V-8 Cummins, see how it runs. Here's part of the Dodge Fleet in 2001, just before I bought my current 02 Dodge QC, SB that I'm still driving today with only 74,000 miles and running better than new.

Your new Nissan is going to have all that stuff too.

With me and my wife now retired, her Yellow 99 Dodge 1500 has 80,000 miles on it and still like new, and my 02 2500 in the new condition it is in, we will probably just stick to buying vintage cars, Jeeps until we are gone.

I cannot tell the difference on the road anymore between a Cadillac, Mercedes, Ford, or any of the footballs, they all look the same taking their badges off. The trucks are the same way. I have a very hard time coming up behind a new 1/2 ton Nissan, Toyota Tundra, or and new Dodge "Ram" and determine what is what. My main gripe is loosing the name Dodge from the truck so now it's just brand X. And they should have kept the new Dodge as American as possible with the Cummins engine.

Anyone see the cummins/nissan video on YouTube? Fred Diaz is talking up the Titan (as he should I suppose). That engine seems huge. I'm guessing that Nissan has totally reworked the entire truck. There is no way in hell the current Titan would carry that v8 on the nose.

Not sure if it was mentioned previously or not, but I was at SHOT Show in Vegas the past few days as "media" and was able to talk to the Cummins and Nissan people regarding this new engine/truck.

Peak torque will be between 1200-1500rpms, not a high revving engine. Rail pressure will be approx. 32,000 with piezo injectors or as they said, "the next generation of Bosch fuel injection systems. He couldn't remember the type of fuel pump. Both the pump and turbo will be in the "V." The turbo will be a Holstet, but they aren't saying what the specs are only that it will be "very different than the VGT found in the 6.7L."

Most interestingly, the transmission... I asked if Nissan were building one in-house and he said "sourced through a third party that Ram HD owners will be familiar with." I asked, "Start with an A." He nodded yes but possibly some "improvements" being made to it.

I wondered what they would be using for a slush box for the Cummins. Nissan used to use Aisin transmissions in some of the older vehicles, until they formed JATCO, which I believe is primarily a CVT division. They must not have had confidence in the current 5 speed auto used in the V8 (gasser) Titan version.
