Warranty Dealer Visits

My new truck is quite a machine, but I sure dislike having to work the bugs out and I can see my visits continuing. I get the feeling that the
dealer shops can't do much on there own, or are afraid of the reimbursement process on these trucks. Ram has to tell
them how to fix issues.

First visit:

1) Diagnose leaking power steering fluid (No condition found as leak dried up/stopped)
2) Turn on rear filter heater (Dealer re-configured the rear filter to turn on, now OK as I checked the pin VDC)
3) Intermittent 7" EVIC screen (Installed a radio update, I knew this was a waste of time)
4) Engine pinging on acceleration (Took service manager for a ride, was told normal operating noise for a diesel)
5) Excessive passenger front seat vibrations (No condition found, was told some vibration is normal when seat is empty)

Second visit:

1) Intermittent 7" EVIC screen, showed Service manager a video of the problem (Dealer to now contact Ram STAR to figure out how to proceed)
2) Diagnose leaking power steering fluid (Leak found, ordering replacement hose 68143651AC)
3) Ordering replacement "RF HUB" as a result of a hidden code, unrelated to any reported issue

Third visit pending:

Leaving truck next week and dealer providing a loaner, my bet is I need a new 7" EVIC Instrument Cluster which won't occur unless STAR tells dealer
to replace it. Hopefully there won't need to be a number four visit

The new Rams are so complex and full-featured that we have to expect a few glitches. The secret to happiness is finding a good technician at a nearby dealership, backed up with a knowledgeable Chrysler tech consultant--each region has one, and some of them come to May Madness to help us with any residual issues.

My passenger seat sure has the jiggles as well when no one is in it. the truck doesn't have any vibrations that I can feel or notice otherwise.

I found that if I move the seat position forward, the seat movement really diminishes. My guess is that it has a poorly designed seat base and just thought Ram may have addressed it by now with some sort of shim kit. My ride is very smooth at all speeds, it's just odd that the seat really shakes so bad and I'm to accept it as "normal".

My Big Horn has a manual adjustment passenger seat, but I haven't noticed any jiggling of it.

Guys, please don't take this the wrong way, but I don't think that it is in any way acceptable to think that these new trucks need to go back to the dealer to get the bugs worked out. Having owned Dodge Cummins trucks since my 1992, I expect much more. In all these years and hundreds of thousands of miles, I've had one of our trucks back to the dealer 1 time for a warranty repair and that was for a water pump on the '07 at something like 49K miles. I understand that the systems on the current trucks are much more complex than they were just one generation ago, but at the price these things cost, you would assume that quality control would be much higher.

If the issues that are coming up on these new trucks were being brought up on this site by new TDR members or new Dodge Cummins owners, it would be a little easier to dismiss them. But, we are seeing long time experienced owners/members complaining. I want to buy a new one soon like many of you have, but it sure doesn't make you confident hearing of all the minor issues that are coming up.

You aren't seeing a lot of mechanical problems on the new trucks.

They do have complex electronics and have had some software glitches. The good part is it's just a matter of downloading a fix just like on your computer.

The hardware is solid and has never been better!

My 1st 13 ,The intank pump died at 236 miles, I discovered the frame mounted Heater not Working on both (13s) in NOV details found https://www.turbodieselregister.com...13-and-some-2014-NO-fuel-heater-engaged/page2 Post #1 & 66 Ram has settle up with me on the matter so I won't talk much about it. Ram moved the bar quite a bit on 2013 3500s and both 2500/3500 in 2014. I agree with Dieselnerd the Rams are solid and dependable. I am happy with both My 13 3500s and recommend the 2013 3500 or the 2014 2500/3500 to anyone.

My '12 Laramie, the passenger seat does not vibrate. But it is not all the way back either. Wife is short so is moved up. @2K CEL. They tell me there is a TSB I need new ends on the harness. OK install ends. Pull truck to front. CEL still on. Take back, replace 2 x O2 sensors.

How long have we had O2 sensors. Can they not build a harness with decent connectors on it.

@ 6K miles, loose rear hub cap. Fiat tells me I have to have the old one so they can inspect it to determine it is defective. If it was not defective it would still be on my truck. 2K miles later the other rear cap falls off. My warranty book says everything is covered. No where does it say I have to prove anything to anybody.

Fiat Customer Service SUCKS.

Most need the latest software up dated, to fix the dashboard screen bugs. Nothing seems to work right until the updates, are updated. look up the software version in the EVIC dash screen, under personal settings? My latest I downloaded through RAMs web sit for my 2013, 3500 is version 13.48.3

I did not think the Uconnect radio updates had anything to do with the dashboard EVIC? They are replacing the RF Hub which sounds like BS as it has to do with the remote key, remote start, TIPM sensors, etc, but that what they say "should fix the dash" problem. If it does not I'll be convinced that this shop is clueless as to how to fix these trucks and I'm glad it's a warranty charge.

Mechanically my 2012 Ram 3500 has been perfect. I have had a leak in the rear of the cab that the dealer thought was the sunroof being out of alignment. After four visits to the dealer I still had a leak when it rains. I finally took it to another dealer and they found a TSB for a redesigned Center Brake Light Lens. Since it was replaced I have not had a leak. I now need my headliner replaced, it will not stay up tight to the roof after the first dealers techs tried pulling it down to adjust the sunroof. I was told the only way to fix it is to totally replace the headliner. The other issue I have had is the "Leather" drivers seat in my Laramie truck is cracking, it looks like its vinyl to me. The seat cover is being replaced under warranty. Those issues aside, the truck is awesome.
