Wife just traded in her 2012 1500 hemi for a 2012 2500 4x4 with the 6.7L. I own a 2004 2500 with the 5.9L and know it like the back of my hand, do my own oil and fuel filter changes and such, BUT, when I looked under the hood of this truck, I know nothing about it. What are some of the things that I should be on the look out for. I plan on leaving this one pretty much stock. Are the turbos different? Fuel system pumps and filter locations, glitches, anything I need to do to it or change right now that usually doesn't get done etc. It has 34000 miles and after her trade in she'll owe about $15000.00. Good deal or what? She bought it from a dealer and is in prestine condition.

I would read up on the 6.7L engine in the forum for the 6.7L engine. The turbos are different from your 2004 truck; they are VGT now and provide exhaust breaking when the exhaust break is engaged (button under the radio). Fuel filter is different now; Fleetgaurd is calling them Nanonet and are a dual filter 5/3 Micron cost $65.95 each from Geno’s garage.

I went from an 04.5 to a 2012 a little over a year ago. Not a lot of difference filter wise. As Jim W. said, the fuel filter is different, but the canister location and method to remove/replace is in the same location with the same size hex wrench needed. I change the oil filter from underneath on this truck. On my old one, I could do it from the top by removing the turbo hose. Oil filter is the same style/part no. Fuel pump on the '12 is in fuel tank vs. on the fuel filter housing on the 04.5. On the 2012 you'll have to do an EGR cleaning at 67,500 miles. Other than roughly 20% lower fuel mileage, I'm glad I made the switch.

Dealer service department said that there are 2 filters. One on the block in the same location as my 04 and one on the frame? Weather has been to nasty to crawl under and look. Guess I need to read up on the exhaust break???

You said that she bought a 12MY truck not a 2013.5MY truck. That is why I said there was only the Nanonet filter that you need to change at the engine. The 2013.5MY truck has two different locations for filters now a 4micron fuel/water separator at the tank and the Nanonet 5/3micorn fuel filter at the engine.

I have never read or ever seen a second filter installed on a 07.5-12MY trucks unless installed as an aftermarket filter kit similar to the one I have or a FASS kit.
