I was lucky. I had appt for something else, and learned of this rear heater problem over a weekend, with a Monday appt. Got there at 8 AM, and the first thing the service guy did was call their diesel guy over, said they had learned something. He told me they had learned of the heater problem and how to fix it. This was back mid Dec, JUST as we were learning of it here.

Yet, there are STILL service depts that do NOT know! Unbelieveable.!

he did say that it was not simply a "on" "off" situation in the ref lash. They did have to do something different, and that when they did it, it would also reset the transmission, and the transmission would go into a relearn mode again.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but i know nothing about wiring. if i can't find a voltmeter could i just check the connector by the filter with a test light to see if it is getting power? And with a voltmeter it doesn't matter which tab i use for positive or negative right?

Either way will work. The black wire at the connector is ground. Easiest was is to pull fuse F-37 in the PDC put the key to run, and check for 12 volts on the forward pin for that fuse. If you have battery voltage there, your heater is enabled. Ken Irwin

I pulled the F-37 fuse and turned the key to run and took a test light and checked the pin closest to the front of the truck and had nothing so I guess mine is not enabled either.

If you don't have power on that pin, it's either not activated OR the heating element is malfunctioning.

Mine was off, my dealer tried to activate it but nothing happened so they took off the filter assemby and measured resistance across the heater and did same test for brand new replacement unit they had in stock. The element on mine crapped out so they replaced it under warranty.

Not sure if I missed it or not in this thread, but is there a build date where this has been resolved at the factory? Have a 2015 showing up today or tomorrow and want to resolve the issue before it leaves the dealer, if there is an issue.

Just heard about this from a customer of mine yesterday. Said his neighbor had this happen and the dealer charged him $400 to get it turned on.

I don't understand why he would have been charged at all. It would be a warranty issue . When I had my 13 done it was just a computer reflash and the time involved was probably less than an hour to do that flash plus several others. My dealer was not even aware of the situation until I brought him a copy of the TSB from this forum. That is understandable as here in TN it usually does not get cold enough for fuel jelling and no one had reported a problem. I think the problem was resolved on new production around Dec 2013 although not sure.

I suspect the dealer charge took into account something else.

Don't know why he was charged. My info came 3rd party but from a reliable source. I would agree though, should have been warranty.

Does anyone know if they are updating all of these with the regular RRT updates? Or do you have to request the rear fuel heater to be turned on specifically? I have the G56 and don't need to worry about whether the transmission loses its memory. I live in Miami FL and don't want to get in trouble if I go visit my parents in Central Illinois next christmas.

I'll be getting my 2014 in a week when the bed is finished, don't know the build date. I only saw it three times and test drove it around the block before my company's owner paid for it. The bed manufacture wouldn't let him take it home until it was finished to make sure the bed paint was not damaged when delivered for install. It was purchased in early December and was one of the last of the tradesman regular cabs in SoCal, so has the TSB been performed or could it had been performed at the factory? We service the Water Treatment Plants in Lake Arrowhead at about 6000 ft elevation, I've driven through there many times with snow and ice on the roads, so I will have to have it checked as soon as I get the truck.

As I recall, this problem was fixed by early 2014. My truck was built in Sept 2013 and it needed the heater turned on. At the time the problem was discovered and Todd of TC Diesel reported it here was around the time they issued the TSB. They started turning it on at the factory not long after. If your truck was built in 2014 it's probably OK. Easy to check with a voltmeter as posted earlier in this thread.

If your in a area that the temps are dipping lower than normal, add some anti-gel to be on the safe side. OR some # 1. I don't trust what the delivery guy puts in the tank.

I just got a late build 2014 a few weeks ago.....gelled up at -18 two days ago...Dealer just informed me the chassis heater was not active. They tell me it won't happen again. I was treated to what I thought was -35, but I was wrong!

Probably not, if remember right, they corrected the programming in October/November of 2013. Somebody had posted a copy of the TSB on one of the forums.

This bulletin applies to Ram Trucks equipped with a Cummins Turbo Diesel engine (sales code ETK) build before 12/14/13 (MDH 12/14/XX).
