Dodge heavy hauler!

B&W Companion SLIDER Hitch.....

We had a 1964 Airstream 26' with bunk bed set up. 4 single beds in the middle, bunk style, and the couch up front. Wife and I and 3 kids used the heck out of it. Towed it all over. Bought it I believe 1990 or 91. Original condition. Put a new frog in it. Added a catalytic heater. Towed all over the US with a 350 cid nine in a conversion van. LOVED that trailer. Bought a big 5th wheel toy hauler to haul our sidecar rig, now that the kids are all grown up. Sold the Aiurstream to another young guy, and his family is LOVING it now!

It is 50 years old this year, and still doing good! I think the pre 1968 trailers are the best built. Not all the new stuff, but best built. We went thru some brand new AS ft's at the Tampa RV show a few weeks ago. Way too "modern" looking for me!

For me it boiled down to I take more short trips-week ends and spend most the time out doors. So having the best towing rig is more important than the most room once I get to my destination.I have been boondocking for 95% of the trips in places where many vehicles will not go solo.I am not so sure a wood built trailer would still be together after 10 years. My wife would enjoy more room inside but it's me that does all the Friday night marathons to get to our wilderness destinations.

Well, I have spent many hours on the web and on the telephone investigating the Airstream travel trailer. Through a lot of work, telephone calls, and leads from forum members I was able to identify three or four promising 34 foot trailers from the middle 1990s in our price range.

I was able to take the dear wife to look at a 30 foot – there is not a 34 foot anywhere near us to look at. Now, while the DW liked the pictures on the web of the trailers I identified, she did not like the feel when she was actually in an Airstream. I should say, she really liked the trailer for the two of us but did not like the trailer for us and the boys. Issues of towing efficiency, construction, resale value, etc., were completely irrelevant to her. Bunk beds, shower stall size, kitchen space, dinette size, …. are what matter to her. We had been to two different RV shows in the last couple of months and she much preferred the “white box stick and tin” trailers she saw at the RV shows much better. The boys also liked what they saw at the RV shows much better.

Sometimes you simply have to go with Management - "when Momma's not happy ain't nobody happy."

I definitely appreciate all of the comments and conversation.
